How to make a battle/play borad (6x4)

Someone PMed me about the battle/play board I made and asked for the instructions to make his own one ;D. So I thought I would share this with all of Dakka.

Heres the link for the picture on the dakka gallery

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/207574-Play%20Board.html

Here are the instructions on how to make it

1. The baord is made from 3mm MDF, which we screwed and glued onto a rigid frame. You need the frame to stop the board warping. We made the frame from 20mm MDF we had in the garage but you could use other timber. For ease of moving it, we made two boards, each 3' x 4' so, side by side, they make a 6' x 4' board.

2. We painted diluted PVA on the underside of the baord, around the frame, also to help prevent warping.

3. We spread PVA on the top of the board and sprinkled fistfuls of sawdust over it. We used a lot more saw dust than we needed and pressed it down to get good coverage.

4. We left some patches with no sawdust on them so that we could paint those as dried out ponds or lakes. It just gives the board some different textured surfaces.

5. We left the board over night to dry. The next day we shook off the excess saw dust and swept up the mess in the garage ;-)

6. We bought dark grey and light grey house paint froma hardware store.

7. The first coat of dark grey took a lot of paint becuase the sawdust was so porous.

8. After the dark grey was thoroughly dry we heavily dry brushed with light grey.

9. When the light grey was dry we lightly dry brushed with white to highlight the texture. It was just from a tube of ordinary white acrylic paint we had in our box of paints we use for painting toy soldiers.

10. We used watered down yellow ochre, also from our paint box, to make the dry ponds look dusty and different from the rest of the surface.

11. The last step was to spray the board with matt varnish.

How to make a battle/play borad (6x4)

erm .... nope...

4 would, 2 would only double 1 dimension.

We use 3 2x4 that makes 6x4 not 6x12!
