Moving to Commorragh and would like to meet my new neighbors!

Hello all! It has been a long time since I have posted on these forums. Shortly after my last posts I lost my job (which provided my residence as well) and found my self too poor for a hobby, and living day to day wherever I could. So here it is about a year and a half later and I find myself once again with a steady income and a steady roof over my head. Thus I have come back to the hobby that brings me the R&R I greatly require. Now, I have found myself in quite a pattern. My primary armies are Orks and World Eaters. Two armies I have built toward the ideal of drive at it, jump out, and cave in its skull. A most simplistic, yet admirable goal I find! Currently I am paint stripping a loyalist marine army (it was my first, started in my youth some 15 years ago) because the paint job looks like hell. I also have a guard army shelved due to it being built back in the old codex days, and thus requires a lot of reworking, and purchasing of almost a whole new army to fix. Now I do love my CC heavy armies, but I feel a great urge to play a finesse heavy shooting army. Since my hobby hiatus the unthinkable happened! DE got a new codex and I just had to buy it and take a gander. I mean c'mon it had to be great after over a decade of waiting right? Well I found myself quickly smitten with them. Having played them long ago, before selling them off because I was not mature and intelligent enough to play them properly as a teen, I have always wanted a chance to get back on the ravager and starting raiding real space.

Now without further blathering I ask a simple question of all you kabalites/cultists/covens out there: Can you give me some solid suggestions for a heavily ranged based DE army? Sample lists are greatly welcomed. (Thus why I posted this in the army list forum) Please note I am looking to build in the 1k to 1.5k range.

If you wish to know my tastes, and units that I find myself attracted to, please read on. If you are tired of my ceaseless yammering and just wish to dole out advice then the following isn't required reading.

I love ravagers, and would be totally fine with using 3 of them, if an alternate use of my HS slots is advised I am more then willing to listen. Though I do think WWP's are very awesome, they seem to me to be more for a CC army then a shooting army, though I could be mistaken, as it is I greatly prefer starting everything in transports. Speaking of transports I absolutely LOVE venoms, both the model and the rules. Though I would still take raiders, I just love the cheap effective venom. Reavers, man do I LOVE the bladevanes rule, the caltrops, the longer turbo boost, the ability to kit them for some anti tank if needed... they just seem like such a great harrassment/utility unit, if possible I would love to include a small squad or two. As far as special characters go I really like Baron Sathonyx, even though I'm not a huge Hellion fan ( though I can see they could have cool uses) I find his special rules and wargear a steal at his point cost. I also really like trueborn, and haemi's for all the obvious reasons. Lastly, while I think scourges are cool, I feel that for the playstyle I am going for reavers can fill the same role for only a slightly higher cost with more abilities, and better survivability.

Thank you all in advance for any help and nuggets of wisdom you are able to spare me!

P.S. And OK it may be silly, but I also really like the idea of having a chance to really expand my color palette with this army. I mean black will always be heavily used, but oh the highlighting possibilities! *glances at his tentacle pink, and lich purple paint pots*

Off the bat for your demand is 3 Ravagers with flickerfields. For a shooting DE army, a close combat DE army, or any DE army that wants to be taken seriously, 3 Ravagers with Triple Dark Lances is the AAA Grade Heavy Support choice. I fething love this gunboats, they have a reasonable chance to damage to armour and if you focus fire you will cripple the target at worst.

WWPs are for certain tournaments where Paint is 51% of the score (Don't laugh, there are some tournaments that are like this).

If you want whats uber competitive: 4 Units of 5 Warriors in Venoms each unit with a Blaster, 2 Units of 9 Wyches with Haywire Grenades a Hekatrix with PGL (don't have the dex so not sure if they get PGL) and Agonizer mounted in a Raider with Dark Lance and Flickerfield, 3 Ravagers with Flickerfields and Triple Lance loadout, 3 Units of 4 Trueborn armed with Blasters (or 5 Trueborn with 4 Blasters and 1 Dark Lance) mounted in a Venom.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I like your suggestions. A couple of questions if I may. The Wyches are x9 I am assuming bc they are meant to be joined by liquifier haemi's or some such? Also for the trueborn, isn't 27 ppm a bit steep with zero ablative wounds, even with the venom around them? Are they meant to be implemented in a manner similar to fire dragons? Other then that it all makes perfect sense to me. Also what is your take on a couple of 3 man reaver units with caltrops and a blaster? Could they be effectively implemented in such a list? It seems like with all the other MASSIVE threats on the board that they may end up surviving for a while and wreaking some havoc.
