Just putting this up here... our local WMH scene dont tend to paint their models for tourneys, however, as more tourneys begin to enforce a Painted requirement, would you, as WMH players, pay for commission painted lists?

My one drawback is knowing which lists are to be painted beforehand, so it would be done on a commission basis, not in advance.

I'm not sure what you are asking by "would you, as WMH players, pay for commission painted lists?" Are you referring to paying someone else to paint a list of your models for you, or for a set list of painted miniatures? I'm a decent enough painter when I actually make myself sit down and paint so I probably wouldn't pay someone to do it for me, but I can certainly see the appeal if you are a busy person with some disposable income. I halfway considered a set of pro-painted Wrongeye & Snapjaw from eBay because they were simply gorgeous and well beyond my capabilities as a painter. In the end my preference for money in my bank account had me order a set to paint myself.

Painted lists for gamers

My local scene contains MANY players, and I will say this... I would not pay for my army to be painted for this reason: I'm broke, and a commission painter would take up the small hobby budget I have atm... So, I would personally prefer to paint my own.

I know that my trolls have been sitting here without ANY paint for the past few months, so my store's journeyman league has gotten me to paint (as its worth just as much, if not more points than games). Try it in your local scene, perhaps have a tourney at the end of the league with a paint requirement... that way people make the attempt to paint.. Or give out a mini painting award... some incentive to get them to paint.

But yeah... no go on the commission painting...

While I wouldn't be in the market for commissioned painting, I'm sure that others are in a different situation. With some of the tournament formats requiring painting, having the ability to get your hands on pre-painted pieces might have more of an appeal.

I think it would be better to have stuff ready to go, like a Winter Guard Death Star or full units of Bane Knights.
I request lists, but checking them is usually fast.

At the big events they check lists throughout the event by
having players fill out two lists.

Sometimes I even hover tables and perform a model count
(caught one or two accidental extras here and there that
way).

I have done small commissions for people at my LGS and have found that small is the way to go.

Paint up 2-3 models, or perhaps their battle group to start with - that way others at the store can see your quality of work (on others miniatures not your own). Then just offer to paint the rest.

In the end it will come down to how much you want to charge for your work as well. I price based off of size, time frame and if assembly is required - am i basing them etc.
