can Grey knights be used effectively against non daemonic armies

Short Answer: Yes.

Long Answer: Absolutely. Grey Knights have a lot of variety within the codex for dealing with all sorts of enemies. On the whole, you'll want to prioritize transports and anything fast-moving (although GK can keep up to an extent). Shoot non-MEQs. Assault MEQs. Force-weapon-insta-kill MCs and ICs. It's pretty straightforward. GKs are one of the true "small, elite force" armies (although they don't have to be if you build them specifically for MSU Purifiers or henchman spam).

In essence, they're considered one of the top-tier armies right now alongside Blood Angels and Space Wolves. Playing them means you aren't playing with any sort of codex creep/disadvantages. I wouldn't call them OP, but you really shouldn't have any matchups that are too uphill unless your opponent outplays you.

heres a scenario for you, 3 ravagers, 2 venoms, one beast squad, two squads of wynches and a few more things I can't remember. grey Knights two squads of paladins, one with driago, and a dreadknight. They roll for mission and its kill points, dark eldar line up and shoots down everything except for two paladins . The grey knights shot up the squad of beast in the process and a squad of wynches and a ravager and a venom. Grey knights win, with two models on the board. the whole army only had four kill points and the dark eldar player only got two for driago and the dreadknight because there was one paladin from each squad. so to answer your question; yes, very much so.

But I totally agree with you, if it was a capture point game against your orks, he would have no way to hold more points than you. In that way the grey knight are sort of like eldar, have to try to tie it up buy doin' a lot of killiing. I knew when the grey knight codex came out that their number one weakness was going to be their small numbers, i can't imagine a foot slogging grey knight army against tau, it would be over at turn one.
