WHFB at the moment, and unlike WH40k (just stylistically anyway,) WHFB has tons and tons of substitutes in terms of miniatures. (This is actually one of the reasons I want to start Fantasy.)

In the long term, I would like to participate in GW-hosted tournaments such as Throne of Skulls, or 'Ard Boyz, and am wondering just how much flexibility I have in terms of modeling?

In particular are miniatures from Gamezone Miniatures. I saw this model, and instantly knew I wanted my entire army to have banners such as these.


I plan on having the models in my army normal GW models, with only the battle standard bit of the models replaced with the winged-standard from the above picture.

Would these be allowed in a GW tournament?

How about full models?

I've found the Great Eagle models also amazingly well done. Much better than GW's Great Eagles.


If I had the rest of my army GW models, and just two or three eagle models replaced with those from Gamezone Miniatures, would they make a fuss about it?

I think you can still use conversion parts, as long as the vast majority of the model is GW.

So I'll take it that the banner swap is ok, but the eagle is not.

If you go in extolling the virtue of X company's "Not Warhammer/40k" lookalike kits--expect them to ask you to put the model away and not bring it back.

GW tournaments the policy was that at least 75% of each model had to be made from GW parts, so the banner top should be ok, but the eagle definitely not.

However due to licensing agreements you also cannot use any GW LOTR miniatures in your conversions, so only WHFB, 40K etc.

This is because GW use their tournaments as a way to garner free publicity, and they wouldn't be able to photograph your army if you won anything as it wouldn't be made up entirely of GW parts.

However as has been stated this only applies to GW run tournaments, and I don't think you would have many problems in indie ones.

LOTR licensing thing is long gone. At least it has been in my area for a long time. I know the original 5 year deal with New Line was pretty harsh, but the new one is more lenient. Best to ask your Local GW though.

UK the LOTR thing was still applicable, although not an outright ban.

If they rumble you, look deeply hurt and surprised and then inform them you were duped.
