Cryx Battlegroup - Master Necrotech Mortenebra 50 Points

Warcaster Master Necrotech Mortenebra

Deathripper
Defiler
Malice
4x Seether

With the lack of focus on Mortenebra and the need for focus on the jacks I choose four Seethers. I like that they all generate there first one and that they can charge/run for free. So you can be more efficient turn one with focus allocation and army position. I also like that Malice is included to drag an unaware jack into my mitts. Then use possession to reposition it so that the Seethers can come up behind and tear it to shreds. Against a Horde army this list is even better with Terminal Velocity. That all the 'Jacks gain boosted melee attack rolls for free and +2" on the charge against living models. I highly enjoy playing this army list. I was wondering what others see and how it can improve.

i would swap out 2 seethers a the deathripper for deathjack and a leviathan. some ranged support in cryx is golden, and you can use mortenbra's "interface" ability to really cook off some shots when in a pinch. also, he can set up a good combo with overrun since the ranged attack can slected more fragile targets, giving other jacks (DJ) a free advance.

malice is cute, but keep in mind it needs enemy souls to run off of past the first one it gets free.

Agreed, the more shooting you can get into a Mortenebra 'jack' list the better.

I'd probably lose Malice for a Reaper and go tier.

Cryx Battlegroup - Master Necrotech Mortenebra 50 Points

@studderingdave - I like the idea of interface but I have a problem losing so much focus to a leviathan or any shooting jack for that matter. I include Malice because he has a better chance of hitting without having to boost while more Cryxian jacks have a RAT of 5. I also like the DJ model and I include him in most my armies but he is lacking fighting capability when he can not get souls either. He will cap at 5 focus a turn if he can not kill a living model.

@George Spiggot - Maybe you do not know but a battle group is a army that includes only Jacks and a caster. So going tiered is not an option seeing as I need two warwitch sirens in the list. If you think you can skip that tier, then you are mistaken referencing page 88 of the Prime/Primal book. I will be Tier 1 which has no effect on my army at all.

@12thRonin - Thank you for the compliment? The laughing orc is throwing me off, sarcasm is hard to recognize in text.

Re:Cryx Battlegroup - Master Necrotech Mortenebra 50 Points

He was being serious, as many Morty lists of that size tend to bring one or both DJ and Nightmare. Mortenbra does extremely well with our light jacks that often don't see much use. A pair of Helldivers become 6 points of headache because they're invulnerable until you decide to let them out and under Morty get free slams and headbutts to set up other shenanigans. Stalkers are likewise fantastic with her, and the Scavenger goes from a pretty neat warjack to a surprise assassination piece that does not require you to go all in.

Cryx Battlegroup - Master Necrotech Mortenebra 50 Points

You've identified that Mortenebra is focus starved and compensated well. Is this list for a specific event? i.e. will you be facing other mangled metal & tooth and claw lists or more normal army compositions? Is there a specific scenario that you will be playing?

I ask as I tend to find that Mortenebra is an assassination focused caster. All the time, I'm trying to keep things alive and manoeuvre around to get the killing strike on the opponent. Now I've only had experience in using her tier list and thus those two solos help a great deal. When I'm going for the assassination I'll need something to activate Overrun and my favourite jack for this is the harrower. Thresher + Terminal velocity + soul collecting means that it's a reliable method to start things moving, and if you don't have the melee range, then it has a ghost shot ranged weapon to go after the squishy stuff at further away. To actually do the overrun move I would recomend - Deathjack, nightmare, stalkers. I haven't tried the scavenger much yet so that's an unknown for me. The Deathjack has a total threat of 17.5" with 5 focus and P+S 18 fists. The Nightmare can go upto 21" if its prey target isn't the caster. Whereas the stalker is 19.5" and ignores spells, focus and stops transfers.

So with this in mind I would go for:

Morty
Deathjack
Nightmare
2x stalkers
harrower

and 14 points for what ever you fancy, be that seether + arc node or something else.

Cryx Battlegroup - Master Necrotech Mortenebra 50 Points

Well I like the suggestions I may reconsider about the all melee aspect of my list and I can see the weakness. I just do not want focus starving jacks on my side when I need to keep Morty alive. I may have to drop something for a DJ and reconsider Malice seeing as he is general good with WSC.

This list is one of 5 list I am running at a local event and I see a lot of Horde there more than Warmachine army list. So with Terminal Velocity I can see the devastating power that this list can unleash on living models.
