BFG Tyranid Synaptic Control Question

Hi guys,

about to build a tyranid fleet (to add to my IN and DE) when I came across something which surprised me a little, have I understood the synaptic control correct in the following circumstance:

Your Hive Fleet is idling near a planet - then over 90cm away appears an enemy - the whole pack automatically (synaptic) set off in their direction at Full Ahead. Yet when the Hive Fleet get within 90cm their automatic (synaptic) reaction is to turn around and head for the nearest planet again...until they're 90cm away from the enemy and on and on...

that is unless I manage to pass a ld test on all (each individual squad/cruiser) of them during their journey from between the 90cm away to within 15cm

I realise that planets aren't always going to be in the opposite corner from the enemy but this seems a little crazy, a crazy loop of charging forward and then running back to the planet, have I misunderstood the synaptic rules?

BFG Tyranid Synaptic Control Question

No, but if your ships are close enough to a hive ship, they can use that Leadership. Makes passing much easier.

But the Synaptic control is why I sold my Nid fleet. There were times you quite simply weren't playing the game with them, just following a chart. It was a bit of a let down.

darn I was hoping I had misunderstood, well thanks for the quick response - I'll still go ahead anyway as they aren't my main fleet more for the easy antagonist role

BFG Tyranid Synaptic Control Question

Well, proper use of that chart means that you'll pass on most things when you want to do them.

Re:BFG Tyranid Synaptic Control Question

yeah all the other chart controls seem fine - automatic responses that I'd make anyway. Just seems that once a planet's on the board it screws everything up and the nids aren't really a fleet where you can sit back and take advantage of any long range arsenal so you have to try and force through the mad dash to get to the enemy. Once there the synaptic looks like it works a treat.

BFG Tyranid Synaptic Control Question

Well the only time I've seen a planet on the board is when the scenario calls for it. And even then the Nid player was the attacker needing to get to it. So, I think it'll be ok.
