Custom space marine HQ generator ( the planning phase )

As the Title suggests i am makeing at a system for createing a uniqe space marine captain/chapter master based unit.

Its going to be a series of tables that you roll dice on depending on the traits you
assigned him. I plan to use this in a 25 battle campaign at my local hobby store among 4 different people 2 people play csm and me and the other play some form of space marines ( dont worry no space puppy shenanigans ).
and of course it will need to be altered some to fit the chaos player's

How the system works is really simple. every victory you achieve allows you to roll on certain charts. those charts (depending on the ones you wanted to roll on) will give you different abilitys
for example, i have options depending on the rank i am ( your rank increases by 1 starting at 1 ). I am rank 2 since i just won the my first game so i look at the chart and decide to roll my dice on one of the charts
such as , ranged, melee, or support i decide to roll on melee and oh look i now have preferred enemy! oh boy! My only problem is that with a rank cap of 10 these guys could get very...very....very powerful.

So i though of a way to increase the points cost of the HQ by a small bit by every rank he achieves.

What do you guys thing so far. its still in development phases and is no wear near done yet and i wanted a second opinion

in addition how much should i increase the points if any?

You need to look at Marik Law's chapter creator. It has very detailed rules for creating not only a whole chapter but individual units, squads, and HQ choices. As far as I'm concerned, it sets the standard for creating a SM hero and chapter.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/384339.page

Custom space marine HQ generator ( the planning phase )

For the campaign rewards or levels an idea you might consider for those categories is when you select them the unit/character goes up in cost according to the table.

So for example:
Melee Table
1. WS +1 +15pts
2. A +1 +15pts
3. S +1 +15pts

Ranged Table
1. BS +1 +15pts
2. W +1 +15pts
3. I +1 +10pts

Support Table
1. T +1 +15pts
2. Ld +1 +10pts
3. Sv +1 +15pts

Basically, you roll a 1d6 and 1-2 = 1, 3-4 = 2, 5-6 = 3.
However, when you roll and get your choice it adds that many points to his cost.

BUT...if you were to roll the same stat twice, the price doubles.

Example:
Wolf Lord hits lvl 2. You pick the melee table and roll the dice.
Your dice comes up 3. Meaning you get +1 Attack to your standard stats at +15 points to the model.

Now, Wolf Lord hits lvl 3. Again you pick melee and roll your dice and get a 4. Getting another +1 Attack to your stats. Only this time instead of getting it at +15 points, it's now +30 points for the second +1 Attack.

With this, to limit the character getting to powerful, you can either keep doubling any subsequent repeat choices OR you can cap it off. Saying you can only get +1 Attack 2 times before that option becomes unavailable to him.

Hope this is useful. Good luck on your campaign.

Cheers~
