Does anyone still play Gorkamorka?

Hi all,
I've been on a trip down war-gaming memory lane recently...some of what are now "specialist games" were my favourite back in the day.

Sadly not in that section on the GW Webpage is Gorkamorka... I wonder how many of you ever played this (or still are)? It would appear some of those models have been reworked into the current 40k Ork range, and I'm sure a few crazy meks out there have been building up mobs from all sorts of bitz!

I truely loved this game...in my opinion, it had all the best bits from Necromunda, plus crazy Mad Max esque vehicle combat (I know rules for vehicles were made for Necromunda later but still...) and clash landed Orks?! Awesome!

I went back to my parents house a few weeks ago, convinced that I still had an original copy of this game and a mob I made somewhere, but it would appear they either did not survive the ravages of time or my old man sold/binned em?!

Just wondered who else has fond memories of this title and whether anyone is still playing it? Have only seen a small handful of models on the gallery...

Will have to add "make a mob" to my list of projects now. Haha

Glad to hear it Optimus!
No, no. Not since the dark day when all the Gorkamorka players were sent to the camps.

Most of them made it back but they were changed. Changed, you see. All had Space Marine armies, most of them painted even, albeit with the Ultramarines Blue a little thick perhaps. And the sounds! They were practically silent when you think back to the happy ork-noises they used to make, before the red shirted troopers hauled them off to the camps with the razor-wire and guard towers.

You can still hear an occasional desperate 'waaagh!' from some of them... Especially the ones that have picked up an Ork army since the dark times.

I'd play a mob up to the point where it would become a partof my Ork force.

The FW stuff is very tempting though.

Question-

Do all of those grot tanks come in the same kit?

Liked the look of the old school bubble chucka's, and if you can pull it off, there are a bunch of home made options out there still.

There are several good Gorkamorka sites still out there, and thier quality would put GW to shame.

I'm playing with a couple of boxes, a few old truks, and some scrap heap tokens.Love the game, but wished GW would support it, still. (Same as Necromunda, but since the purge, it is still safe for the guy with the full collection of the first edition.)

Daves forts and sci fi stuff are almost essential for expanding the table of a 4X 8. Great selection over there, too.

Does anyone still play Gorkamorka?

Blackfang good stuff man I hope it works out well.

I totally see your point about including more of the 40k universe into these skirmish type of games and I think its a good one.

Aren't there already 40k squad/skirmish offshoot rules? Is it called apocalypse or armageddon or something like that (sorry not that up on 40k these days).

Well just in my personal opinion I rather like the limited races side of it. Everyone pretty much starts out the same (expect for the visual styles of their gang/mob and the odd minor rules or weapon choices) and then through either good/bad tactics, slugging it out or in a lot of cases shear luck lvls up and some real character starts to emerge in your team. Two gangs that are basically the same at the start of a campaign could be wildly different by the end in terms of skills, gear, war stories, whatever.

I feel if you have too many races in there, then there maybe no common ground? I guess if you get the racial balance just right and chuck in loads of cool character development it could be awesome but ya gotta have a good narrative side too. Why are they there...why are they fighting each other...etc,etc.

Good luck man

The problem with GorkaMorka is that you quickly wind up with a lot of teef and nothing to really spend them on. Necromunda and Mordheim handled income better than GM did. I suppose you could adjust the economy a little to make it take longer to max out.

Breotan wrote:The problem with GorkaMorka is that you quickly wind up with a lot of teef and nothing to really spend them on.

Breotan I never got that far into it to ever encounter that problem...The rules say that when a mob reaches 400 rating (I think) they basically retire, which is a bit of a lazy rule in my opinion, maybe you could write some rules for an orky 'gambling den' or such like where you have to spend large ammounts of teef to be in for a chance to win stuff like 'one in a million' weapons or vechicles?
