I know you guys have probably seen this topic A MILLION times but I am starting a blood angels army and was wondering what the basic consensus is on the process (like how you layer and what not) I have a black primer and everything I use is from citadel atm due to most of the stores in my army not carrying anything else >< but I have the black primer with a mechrite red a blood red a gore red a blaze orange highlight and I was just wondering what the steps what wash foundation and everything else you guys kinda feel is the best. I'm totally a noob at tabletop gaming and painting is the biggest draw I had to the hobby and I would like to ensure I get it right XD so if you guys maybe know an already in-use thread or video (I've seen the jawaballs videos but he doesn't do a lot of explaining (from what I've seen) and could just help a noobie out it would be great and WHOLE heartedly accepted =)

I don't like the bright red most people seem to do. I just switch the bolter colour to black to break up all the red.

How did he get that red? He said he puts water in his paint but how much is the norm for that?

Depends on how thick your paint is. You want to paint to go on smoothly, but not be the consistency of water colours. I can't give you an exact ratio as all paint pots will be different, but I'd suggest 1:1 paint to water and working from there.

Look at the way the paint flows from his brush in the video, try and copy that.

I'm using all gamesworkshop paint so whatever the thickness is of that, I actually got into the hobby purely for the fluff and the painting (LOVE to paint) but then I find there's a lot more to it lol like everything else in life amirite? But, I love his paint scheme I just don't know like what 1:1 means in term of ratio like is that 1 ml-1 ml or did he fill one pot with water and have the paint and just dump them together and boom there it is?

There are even variations of consistency in the same colour of GW paints - they all dry out at different rates.

1:1 means one part water to one part paint. I wouldn't recommend adding water to your paint pots unless they start to become claggy. The method I use (and I know pro painters are going to give me gak for this) is I dip the tip of the brush in the pot, then I dip it again into a tub of water. You don't need too much paint on the brush, too much paint will obscure details.

The idea is to do lots of light coats, not one heavy coat. I wouldn't worry to much about getting the basecoat (Red Gore) perfect, it really only needs to be painted on once. I've found it best to do three or four light coats of Blood Red, depending on how red you want the model.

Also of note is the black wash he uses in the video can be substituted with GW Badab Black.

I prime with GW Skull White in the spray can. But I live in rural Australia so my options are rather limited. You, living in the US, probably have a lot of choice available.

I'm sure a quick search of Dakka will reveal a whole host of spray options for your area. As long as it's white it should be good - the dark colours will come from the wash, not the undercoat.
