And the work goes forward on my Stygian Hordes army

A few weeks ago I mentioned I had a Chronopia Stygian army just sitting there gathering dust, and decidedvto create a Hordes army to use in friendly games with it.
Things have gone forward pretty well, and I"m using the concept of an army the uses speed and defense, but lacks in armor and heavy warbeasts. I have a number of Hammerheads, Embalmed, Guardians, and a couple of other beasts that serve as light warbeasts.
For units, I have warriors with axes, spears, and swords, along with some Void snake people that fit right in.
Warcasters come in the form of Stygian Priestesses and some other reptile type mystics. I also have some Stygian Great Ones that will be nice cavalry units.
I'll see about getting some pictures up detailing the progress of the army as soon as I get some painted up to a good desert scheme along with some unit cards.

I like the theme. How much conversion work are you doing?

1. I am guessing you are rebasing all the models. Anything else?

2. Are you going to use the stats of another army or try to make your own?

And the work goes forward on my Stygian Hordes army

The miniatures hold up pretty well, considering their age, so I really don't have to do any conversion work.
As far as the stats go, I'm working on the idea of an army that can move quickly, but doesn't have any heavy creatures, just light warbeasts such as Hammerheads, Guardians, and Embalmed.
The spells the Warlocks have I plan on adapting from the Stygian list that's in Chronopia.
The big trick is to not fall into the trap of making an all powerful army, but one that will be fun to play against as much as run.
I'm currently working on the back story with a friend of mine who's gotten his first novel published, so I think this army will be off to a good start.

And the work goes forward on my Stygian Hordes army

This may sound weird, but you may try wirting to Privateer Press and ask them how they design units. Allthough I am sure they rely on lots of play testing they must have some way figuring out how many points something is worth before hand.

Failing that you will have to analyze the game for yourself and try to reverse engineer it.

Try finding an army that is similar to the one you want. So yours sounds like Circle minus heavies. So look at circle and base your warcasters off theirs but replace the ones that don't match your own themes.

It's definitely a good suggestion, using stats from other armies. Coming up with stats is actually pretty easy with a slow grow approach.
Doing it that way gives me a chance to take on small parts of the army at a time and seeing how later units work with current ones.
The Guardian and Embalmed, due to their weapons, can be variations on the Axer and Impaler. The big difference is that they both have 4 arms and snakelike bodies.
My Warlock will be a Stygian Priestess, and I'll round out the group with a Hammerhead to start.
That's my initial battlepack, a Guardian, Embalmed, Hammerhead, and Priestess. They won't have the heavyweight punch other packs have, but they will have slightly more speed and spell power. When I get a bit more time, I'll lay their stats out for you.
