Frode Rage Olsen painted his Sanguinary Guard differently to how you might expect. Rather than start with a gold basecoat, Frode painted his miniatures with Mithril Silver. He then washed them three times with Gryphonne Sepia, leaving Mithril Silver showing on the very extremes of the model - sort of like reverse highlighting. What a great way to get a deep gold with very little effort.

Dave Williams painted the gold armour on his miniatures using a basecoat of Burnished Gold and a wash of Devlan Mud. He then drybrushed them with Shining Gold. I really like the effect Dave's achieved - although less crisp than Frode's, the drybrushing adds texture to the armour and makes it look battle worn and more real.

go back and re-paint the edges of the feathers skull white and highlight the edge of the wings themselfs skull white
