New Footwear

Well, when I say I don't want anything for Christmas, what I actually mean is that I want to get it myself.

I've been wearing my smart shoes for all occasions since I outgrew my last pair of trainers and couldn't be bothered replacing them, but now they're starting to die, i've decided to cave and get something.

I preferably want some sort of boots, but the only ones I can find that fit my definition of 'boot' are things like this: http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/stealth-force-8-0-p149316

Now comes my dillema. Since my definition of 'boot' seems to be mainly 'walking/hiking boots' as opposed to 'boots for all (or many) occasions', and most shops' definitions of 'boot for all (or many) occasions' seems to be 'shoesthatarentshoesbutareboots' that lack any and all appeal, i'm stuck asking: Will the boots that I linked do only for rambling across hills or will they do for general wear?

If they don't do for general wear (which, being the shoe connoisseur that I am, I suspect they won't) then does anyone know of anything in the same kind of look and style that will? Preferably leather.

Cheers.

New Footwear

Wearing formal shoes and informal shoes tends to give off a weird vibe so I would avoid that in the future unless you are going for the formal shoes, fedora and trenchcoat "please arrest me officer" look.

As for hiking boots, the ones you linked aren't even that great for rambling sadly (the same goes for most leather boots, go for more modern materials) so try to find the local military surplus shop and pick some hiking boots up from there. That said don't always walk around in hiking boots, especially leather ones, as it looks a bit odd.

Can't you just go buy some trainers or converse or something?

EDIT:

Avoid anything that is described as "military styled" when it comes to hiking boots, they are invariably crap.

Converse look horrible, and trainers just aren't my type of thing.

I'm not planning to go hiking or walking any time soon (mainly because if something happens to my right knee, i'm left unable to walk properly for about a day due to what I was told was Osgood Schlatter's disease, but researching that has told me it shouldn't even have lasted 1/5 of the time that it is lasting so i'm not quite sure what it is) I was mainly just wondering if they'd do for anything.

I don't really care about how I look to other people, so long as i'm comfortable, and i've put up with looking odd for most of my life, so i'm fine for that stuff.

If you want comfort for walking around then you definitely need trainers, hiking boots are designed to be comfortable on rough terrain for long distances and aren't too comfy for walking about in towns or cities.

If you insist on not wearing trainers then military hiking boots are probably the next best thing.

Re:New Footwear

If you're the adventurous type, you could go to a mall in Virginia the day that retro Air Jordans are being re-released and get pepper sprayed by the 5-0.

What I usually wear are generic Texas Steer brand leather steel-toe work boots from K-Mart. Very comfortable, and each pair usually lasts for about a year of medium to heavy use. Leather exterior, but not cheap leather. They look casual enough to wear with jeans, and formal enough to wear with dress pants and the like, as well as to work. Plus, they're steel toe, so if you get into a fight and need to kick the feth out of someone, it helps.

Reasonably priced at $49.99 USD

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The toe doesn't actually show as a different color, the picture is just photo-shopped to indicate where the steel toe is.

I lol'd.

I don't believe K-Mart has stores overseas, and their website only ships to the U.S.

If you have an ebay and paypal account, let me know your size, and I'll list a pair in a private auction. Just try and make sure the sizing is as accurate as possible, cause the cost of return shipping to swap sizes wouldn't really be worth it.
