AoBR Assault Terminators?

Is it a good idea to get AoBR Terminators and some TH/SS bits to make a Terminator Assault unit? Has anyone else tried it, and were you happy with the results?

Get a assault terminators box (brand new one with 5 ss/th and 5 lc arms) and get your regular old terminators from aobr.

Except they dont match up exactly so you will be doing some conversion work. It's not quit plug and play.

Actually, it is pretty much plug and play. The only thing you need are extra shoulderpads and to snip off the pegs that the SB/PF arms fit on. It's really easy and looks pretty much indistinguishable from the standard box.

I didnt even go with the extra shoulderpads.

I drilled out the LC arms and fit them to the AOBR terminator bodies, and they look great.

Now to prime and paint them.

Its very easy to do using the Space Wolves pack box. I gave two of my AOBR termies twin thunderclaws and one a SS with thunder hammer.

You just clip off the weapon from the arm and swap them out. Heck even the tubing lines matched up perfectly.

Yeah thats basically what I did. I had a box of assault terminators and gave them LCs, then got some cheap AOBR ones off ebay, snipped off the pegs and put the TH/SS on there

You could have a few sets of arms like that so you have an interchangable terminator squad.

Let me re-phrase that - they're unobtainable at a price that makes converting AoBR termies worth while. At those prices you're only saving $10-14 compared to buying proper terminators that can be posed nicely.

Doesn't the fact that they're selling on bits sites for the same as FW pads tell you that they're pretty rare?

I wouldn't go that far.

But the Dark Angel vet pack comes with some. I think the Black Templar conversion pack may as well. So there are extra ones floating around.

I can't agree here. I really loathe how Terminators look without shoulder pads. They just look... weedy. As has been suggested, you can cut the weapons off the AoBR pads and stick em on there if you're a little more talented.

You can also buy metal shoulderpads from GW, trim down the plastic of the shoulder a little with a hobby knife or clippers. Then use a round file or the outside of the clippers to press/spread inside the metal shoulderpad to expand & flatten it a little, and it'll fit the terminator shoulder pretty well.

That sounds like a lot of work for something that won't look quite right.

About ten or twenty seconds' work. It takes longer to describe than to do. I think it looks pretty good. Of course mine, with the light armor and dark shoulderpad, make it more obvious. If you go dark on dark or light on light it will be less noticeable.
