Armored Ogres

I've been thinking about this as a possibility for a while. I love the concept of the ogres, but the large amount of bare skin is something I do not like. Has anybody seen any good conversions hidden in the dark corners of the internet or a website selling non-warhammer bits? I could do a decent job using green stuff and plasticard but I dont have the time to start up a ton of custom units.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
B-bumb-bump-bump

Hey there.

So I have done some work like what you are askig for.

I am doing chaos ogres and I have used marauder shields and chaos warrior shields on irongut models as well as normal ogre bulls.

Other race shields would work to just depends on what look you are going for.

This sounds quite simple but it looks pretty good.
I can't showyou any pictures since I am away from my ogresfor about another two weeks how ever if you can wait I can show you what I did.

I want some beefy looking armored chaos ogres. Ideally, I dont even want visible faces. I would prefer all in helmets. I was just wondering if buying mass amounts of the existing armored heads is my only choice.
Armored Ogres

A mix of marauder shields for back and shoulder armor and warrior shields on the arms is pretty nasty looking.

I prefer the heads that have the chain mesh as a face as well as some other ones.

I can show you pictures when I get home from the school break.

But for the time being marauder shields and such are great and IMO you cant have enough.

Armored Ogres

Indeed but I was looking for something a little bit more armor like then just shields. Some real looking armor. If you have the ogres codex, then I mean like the iron skins tribe (I think thats the name). They capture and trade stuff to the chaos dwarves for tech and armor and I just wanted to create the look of something built to fit instead of DIY armor.

Re:Armored Ogres

I'll preface this by say I've never scratch build armor like this, but here's what I would try if I was going to do it. Just my hypothesis.

I would take (various sized) plasticard tubing (or maybe rubber tubing, though I don't know how well that would work.) and carefully cut the tube down the middle into two equal halves. Then cut the tube into shorter lengths, large tubing for shoulder and hip plates and slightly smaller tubing for side plates, arm & leg plates. I would layer them so they overlapped each other slightly like real plate mail. I would build the chest, back and pelvis plates out of regular plasticard or maybe splayed extra large tubing halves with minor GS to fill gaps and help complete the look. Even though each Ogre model is posed differently I would make templates for the chest, back, pelvis plates, so I would at least have a starting point, and wouldn't have to shape each on from scratch.

Again, I've never tried this, but that how I would try to do it.
