What model did you start wargaming with in whichever game?

My first ever model was a single Ork I was given while I was at school (aged 8 I might add), before buying a set of Space Marines shortly after, though it was seeing a Stegadon in the catalogue which created my love for Warhammer and subsequently the wargaming hobby

There was a wizard on the first ever White Dwarf I bought (some 15/16 years ago).

First model I went out and bought was a Rhino, first thing I painted to a semi decent standard was the 2 blister pack of Dark Angels in the robes.

It was an old Ral Partha (I think) AD&D box of minis. When I was around 12 my aunt got me the AD&D red box and a set of minis. That got me started in roleplaying.

My first actual gaming minis would have been from Battletech. I think it was the old (blue) plastic Clan Assualt Mechs box set. Had a Diashi, Man O War, Gladiator, & Masakari IIRC.

My first war game type model painted was some skeletons from the old board game Warhammer Quest. It may have been skellies from the expansion Catacombs of terror, the game and expansion belong to a friend of mine. I was sick of the minis not being painted. After I did those models he bought me a dwarven troll slayer as a thanks. It was quiet a few years after those models I started war gaming though, my re intro to the hobby was orks!

Battletech Locust. I was terrified to paint it. I was afraid I would ruin it. At the time I thought I did a good job but in reality I globbed so much Testor's model paint (petro-based!) onto that poor thing that I obscured all of its details.

The very first model I gamed with was a HO scale M1A1 Abrams tank by Roco back in the late 80s. Eventually, I had 15 of them, alongside a dozen or so M2 Bradleys and infantry. They all got used in one mammoth weekend of gaming when we refought the Operation: Desert Storm battles based off the CNN AARs. It was a gaming model though, not a "serious scale model". Gaming in 15/20mm WW2/moderns was all the rage in the mid 80s.

I no longer have it and images of them (let alone stock) are harder to find than common sense in a gaming forum.

My first model was the Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer with force sword. That was in third edition and that model is still available for purchase to lead your armies today. I might have to buy it again just for nostalgia purposes.

I have no idea which was my first wargaming model purchase. I had been buying Ral Partha stuff for D&D back in the day, but more for RP purposes than wargaming.

Back in the day, I played a lot of Battletech, and my first Army was the Eldar from White Dwarf 127.

About 10 years ago I got the 3rd edition starter set with the Dark Eldar and Space Marines in it, I can't even remember what was in the set, but my dad helped e build all those. The first model I bought and built myself was the old Razorback with heavy bolters, still one of my favourite models to ever exist, if Forge World carry on with this trend of re doing the old SM vehicles, I shall be getting my mitts on the Razorback model.

A swordsman from Empire. He was multipart plastic from 5th edition and I built/painted him for a friend, fell in love with that part of the hobby and asked to keep the model and replace it with a new one, which I did. It wasn't even a bad first paint job, but lord it wasn't good. Lol

27 old-school 2nd Edition Necron Scarabs I got for a planned Necron conversion. Decided to go down a different route with my plans, however, but I'll keep them for nostalgia.

I can't remember the name, but my first model ever was like a WWII or Korean War fighter plane with a giant oval air intake under the nose that I made a right mess of assembling and never bothered to paint. I got it for my birthday when I was like 7.

My first model-for-gaming was a plastic Eldar jetbike I got when I was probably 16 or so. Back then I had no idea what Warhammer even was. I had no concept of the story or rules. I couldn't tell the difference between some Eldar things and Space Marines. I bought it because for years my mother had been trying to encourage my participation in her hobby of painting ceramic figures, and while I enjoyed the physical act of putting brush and paint to figure I got sick of the cutesey-poo figures, even among the fantasy pieces. The jetbike looked unique and interesting so I bought it, painted it in that gaudy blue/orange color scheme it had on the cover of the box, and then never did a damn thing with it, and didn't look at 40K again for at least 4 years. For a while I was mostly just into painting figures for use in RPGs.

I can't remember exactly, but it was either the minis that come with the D&D First Quest box set from 1994 or the Space Marine & Chaos Space Marine that came with a starter set of citadel paints.

When I finally decided to get into miniature a couple of years ago the first minis I bought were the box of four Orks GW does, just to see if I thought I'd enjoy painting. Turns out I don't enjoy painting but really enjoy model making and playing

My very first model kit was Slave 1 from Empire strikes back I must of got it when I was 5 or 6. My dad was supposed to buy me the toy but he was kinda tanked at the time and got me the model kit instead....ahhh memorys of a 6 year old kid trying to 'snap' the pieces off the sprue's and cut them off with scissors then using to much model glue to melt the whole thing and turning into a huge waste of time and effort

After that various real world military kits mostly tanks and helecoptors...I still love the Hind-D gunship =o]

My first GW figgies was the three pack of SM libarians, I though swords and books and power armour, these guys are bad ass in the extreme! ahh to be 11 or 12 again.

Ah. So they weren't. Thanks for pointing that out, Loki. I'm a bit new to 40k, so I'm not very knowledgeable about anything pre-5th Ed (except the old Necron codex). I should fix that post now...

I started with Heroquest / Space Crusade.

My first ever Blister Purchases were Eldar Pirates/Raiders or whatever the first releases of them are called.

First model, or models I should say, was a box of SM Sniper Scouts I picked up along with the starter hobby set after wandering into the local GW shop which is now closed. Painted horribly but even back then, I was a Blood Angels fan so the colour scheme was pretty close to my BA scheme now. Still have the models somewhere...need to find them for a photo shoot.

My brother-in-law first introduced me to 40k about 8 years ago. One day I went to a local hobby store to check things out, and me not knowing anything resulted in a purchase of some sisters of battle. Not sure how that happened, but all this place had was space marines, some catachans and some sisters of battle, and clearly space marines were the bandwagon army, so I wasn't interested in them. To make a short story long, and not to brag or anything, I went home and painted up this masterpiece shortly after:

Well the first thing I bought was the Necron Battleforce and a metal Necron Lord to accompany it (the one without the orb). He was the first thing I painted, and recently repainted to be in line with my newcrons' colour scheme.

Poor guy used to to command entire Necron legions, but now he's just a courtier in my Overlord's court. Then again he's made of metal and the Overlord is plastic so he deserves the demotion.

My first model was a Revell He-219 Night Fighter built in 1969. Funny thing, I just picked up the same kit from a collector, not sure if I'm going to leave it in the box or do a build up and see how far I have progressed.

1989, I got a Ral Partha Pewter Battletech Hunchback was my first model and also the first one I ever painted. I remember I primed it black, drybrushed it grey, awesome, and then drybrushing other colours into an urban camo. Then painstakingly hand painted a Steiner logo on the side of the cannon, and a Hanson's Roughriders logo on the upper leg.

I wish I still had it so I could see how poorly or well I actually painted it.

Next I got a Battletech Cyclops, and several years later some D&D minis.

My first model was a Phoenix-Hawk from the old Battletech series of models, back in the late 80s. I remember not understanding dry brushing, and a mate 'showed' me how - it was an interesting experiment, to say the least.
