WIP Plaguebearer

My test model for a Nurgle Deamon army, still very much work in progress, but getting there.

I plan to add more bruising, dirt on hands and feet, blend from flesh into bone on the horn, make the plague sword rusty and possibly add some water effects as dribble. What do people think?

I wasn't expecting much from a WIP Plaguebearer thread but I was really impressed when I opened this thread. I really like the skin on this guy. Great seeing something other than solid green.

That really does look fantastic, though it might be lacking just a bit in the nurgle department. You really have the skin down perfectly, but much like a perfectly painted IG tank I think it is now time to move on to 'weathering' to make it really stand out. The skin currently looks a bit too "healthy" like you are only halfway through painting it. Those bumps could be done as pustules, you could have some oozing action, or gangrene.

Looks great so far though.

Often orthodox is orthodox because it works, that is what rot looks like. Humans have a built, emotional reaction to greens because it is indicative of rot and disease, and is especially powerful when combined with skin colors. Same thing with red. You are going to have a hard time being as impactful with a different color pallet. I'm all for thinking out side the box, but green represents disease for a reason.

That being said, I really wasn't trying to say what color the pustules and such should be. Purple, red, yellow, there are a lot of options, I was just indicating some discoloration of one sort or another would be good.

Yes he certainly needs more rot, I'm just a bit concerned about overdoing it. I like the pustules idea, I was considering some mold too

I was planning using different shades of skin tone for each one so I think this would be the most human, I'll add greys and greens into the flesh to tint them a bit in future

Absolutely loving the execution of the skin, as well as the more natural "irritated flesh" palette. I'd definitely be concerned about overdoing it, as you've got such a beautiful(? ) thing going here.

I was thinking about pus/snot/etc. and I think the key is getting things to look fluid, but still opaque. Have you considered trying to mix paint and water effects or gloss varnish? I think a pale green-yellow would look great pooled inside (but not necessarily oozing out of or, if so, minimally) those abscesses. It would give you a touch more green in your scheme without really affecting the skin tone. I think it might be worth drilling a few divots into some scrap sprue, giving it a rough paintjob, and applying some test pus, at least.

That's a good idea about trying it on some sprue first, I have jumped in and messed up models in the past. I think the plague sword certainly needs some ooze and drip.
