vossyvo wrote:Hey Guys! I've read some forum posts that say some kits are resin but from what I've seen in painting progress shots (this is where I've had to go to get any sort of Idea what things are made of lol) everything seems to be metal (including bases?).

Most of the PP lines are metal. But PP are bringing out a plastic kit of the main heavy beast for legion. It contains the parts to build three different beasts (Carnivean, Ravagore, Scythean) but only one in-total. With the plastic warjack kits people (myself included) have been magnetizing them to save money, but that might be easier with warjacks over warbeasts.

Oh, and the bases are plastic as standard but you can get metal ones if you want.

vossyvo wrote:
So if someone could answer these questions or direct me to the info that would be fantastic !!!

1. These miniatures are larger scale than most from what I can see, If they are all metal how much pinning am I going to need to be doing to hold them together? I'd hate for them to turn up at my house later this week and be unable to assemble because I have nothing to pin them with. Do they even require assemble or a single piece? What do you guys recommend?

I can't answer to the level of pinning needed but it is a good idea on the major joins. I'm somebody who will attempt to pin all the joins but that's my personal preference. Sometimes you'll find a PP model that is a single piece but that is generally the rank and file unit models not the ones in the warpacks.

vossyvo wrote:
2. Now the site I bought the kit on claimed it contained everything I needed to start playing Legion of Everblight, does this include any sort of rulebook/codex type material? or should I be ordering something else as well? The PP Website mentions 6 Models in one section but the other says "This box contains a full warpack ready to be assembled, painted, and sent to war! Grab a handful of dice and a ruler and you'll have everything you need to begin your HORDES battles.
"

What the kit will contain is your warlock, one heavy warbeast and three(?, four?) leaser warbeasts. the cards containing the stats and special rules of the models and a set of quick start rules. The cards are the real deal, they will be used whenever you play the game with those models. The quick start rules are a slightly less complicated version of the full set found in the Primal book. Nothing you learn in the quick start rules will be contradicted by the full rules, it will expand upon what you will learn playing with the warpack in small battles.

vossyvo wrote:
3. Do I need a Hordes Rulebook as well as army specific rules. Eg Warhammer has the big rulesbook and a codex for each army. Their site has a printable rules claiming "Quick Start Rules
Everything you need to begin playing HORDES can be found in the Quick Start Rules."

As you advance beyond the warpack and pick up more models, solos and units, you will need the full rule book which is called Primal which will look like this. 2 years ago PP updated their rules to mkII and put out a new edition of the rule book.

The new models that you purchase will come with cards though and this, along with Primal, will be all you ever need to play the game. Now say you wanted to find out a bit more about your faction, Legion of Everblight, like who is Everblight and why am I fighting these Trollbloods, Skorne and Circle Orborus then you might want to get the "Forces of Legion of Everblight" book. When PP put out the mkII rules they did a book that contained everything that came out in the mkI years for each faction. Along with this is the Domination book that came out a couple of months back. Rather than updating one faction at a time PP give all the factions an update at the same time, keeping everybody on a similar footing. Domination will have new rules for some stuff that isn't on the shelves yet so you can plan what you want to get in the future. I believe PP plans to do one of these books a year but I haven't heard confirmation as yet.

vossyvo wrote:
4. I have a mate who is casually into Warmachine who mentioned something about the two games ability to play each other, despite one been fantasy based the other scifi? How does this work? Do I need another rule book for this?

Warmachine isn't sci-fi, it's more steampunk than anything. PP call it "full metal fantasy" but the jist is that both warmachine and hordes play well against each other. In fact they are nicely balanced against each other. Both Warmachine and Hordes are set in the same universe and in the fluff you'll read about battles between legion and cryx, or circle and menoth etc. As for another rule book, I would say it's not necessary. The only difference lies in how the Warcasters/Warlocks control their Warjacks/warbeasts. Try and play your beginning games against a hordes army so you can't get confused by the different mechanic on the other side of the board but later on you will get to smash big robots to pieces.

vossyvo wrote:
Anyone with some time to answer any questions would be awesome!! Sorry I know so little, I don't have any Local Game Stores around me so kinda relying on the internet to find out what I need to know and I'm struggling at the moment as you may notice lol.

No worries, Ask any questions and somebody around here will pipe up.

In my local area we have 5 players and they have 6 Warmachine factions and 4 hordes factions (most have two factions to play with) so there it's warmachine that has the numbers. At the tournaments I go to it seems very close to 50/50 between the two sides of the game.

Given that I'm over in the UK I can't speak to how things are there over in Australia but I suggest checking out the Press Gangers (volunteers who help new players and organize events) and the podcast warcast (they'll hopefully know somebody in your local area).

They are fully compatible and the rule books are about 95% identical, so it shouldn't be much of a concern if one is more played than the other. With that said, Warmachine has been around longer, and therefor it's factions are probably more prevalent.

1. I think all of Hordes models are metal atm, but comming out soon they will be plastic. No there not hard to pin but your going to have wings on alot of stuff so you are going to want to pin those.

2. They come with a VERY basic rule book. Basically it gives you the general outline of the game.

3. Your playing legion so theres no point in you having a rule book you will just ignore everything in it. Or get one so you know if your opponent is cheating too.

4. Yes you can play them together. There are things in the hordes rulebook that arnt in the warmachine rule book and vise versa. But they on pertain to stuff around what your side can and cant do and how they handle focus/fury. But once again your playing legion you would be better off buying a paper weight for all its worth to you.

Help with Legion of Everblight Newbie!!

yastobaal Got most of the answers all covered pretty nicely. I want to add a couple notes though. First, the plastic dragonspawn kits come out next month. Second, that PP is indeed planning to do a book each for Warmachine and Hordes a year for the time being. PP calls these anthology or compendium books. Each only has about 7 (Domination) to 13 (the most in any one was in Legends, but that was on a two-year cycle) new entries per faction. Right now PP is planning to have things more on the lower end (8 in Wrath for Warmachine had 8, Domination for Hordes had 7) due to the shorter release loop.

These books are mostly optional. Any new "core rules" involve new model type that show up in that book, or optional stuff. The books are much more fluff, art, and modelling-related. All the rules you need for a model will generally be on its card.

vossyvo wrote:Thanks yasto! Perfect!

Which of the systems is more popular if you don't mind me askin?. I just took at look at the Warmachine tab and noticed they had a FULL Plastic 2 player Starter kit? It was quite reasonably priced as well and both the races inside appealed to me.

Would you say Warmachine is the more popular of the two because its hard enough getting a game around my area with WH40k let alone something less popular like Hordes or Warmachine. If I knew one was dramatically more popular, I'd probably opt for that system.

As noted, they are more the same game, but different aspects of the setting. As an example in this, when I started playing, our group was kind of "divying up" factions. Most everyone picked Warmachine factions, and I picked the (at the time) younger Circle Orboros Hordes one. Until MkII hit, I was pretty much the only regular Hordes-first player locally, I think. Still really the only consistent Circle player I think. I have not ever had an issue playing games agaisnt Warmachine. You just need to note that due to the differences in how magic is managed (really the only difference), you will probably build and play a bit different to Warmachine players, but it is best to think of it as one game with a couple sets of factions,r ather than two separate ones.

vossyvo wrote:Ok thanks WUWU, Thats what I wanted to hear. I am a bit annoyed with how damned pale some people lookin PP art. I understand Cryx doesn't get much sun, but some of their humans look damn-near blue. Gets worse with some of their Circle stuff. So yeah. I say go for this scheme. <_<

And stuff.
