Its been said that GW has told FW, for no apparent reason, to cease further Chaos Dwarf developement. Everything being released is stuff that's been done for a while, or is common to both Tamurakhan and Montrous Arcana. After that nothing. I'll go and see if I can find the exact quote somewhere, but over on Chaos Dwarf Online... one poster spoke with the FW guys at GD and was told as much. That it looks like FW is releasing Bull Centaurs, and both Kdaii through Monstrous Archana. They also said there were wolf riders but that those are on hold until GW redoes the plastic wolves. I only ask, because this is what Forge World has said they've had planned for awhile now.

That's a pretty fantastic point, Kan. I mean, folks are already complaining about how much a Fantasy army costs in relation to a 40k army. I think we CD lovers should be happy with how much we've got/are getting now, our persistance has paid off with Infernal Guard, amazing warmachines and plenty of monsters.

Hobgoblins could easily be produced by FW seperately so we shouldn't count them out yet.

Really at this point I think it's about time FW focus on making things for the ranges they have yet to touch, Tomb Kings, Lizardmen, Orcs and Goblins, Zoats, more Fimir and the like

Sure I love CDs, and would love to see more, but I am satisfied at this point

Just so long as if they stop CDs they don't start doing Chaos, expecially not Khorne and Nurgle

Few could afford it all at once. Us Chaos Dwarf players are lucky in one way, that FW wrote the rules such that its a relatively low model count army. One of the basic units players are fielding is a 27 model unit of Infernal Guard with great weapons... with a Castellan. The Castellan is 150 pts and the 27 IG are 470pts. Yes that costs ~$200, but its more than 1/4 of your army. If you take fireglaives thats becomes a 600pt unit without the character. You fill out your artillery with 2 deathshriekers and 2 magma cannons and thats 500pts. A sorcerer prophet on a mount is close to 500pts, that'd be $100. So you're at $500 and 3/4 of an army. If you're price concious at that point pick up a Hellcannon and some goblins to fill out the army. That'd give you a $600 army for 2000pts. GW will never ignore anything FW does that is making a lot of money.

As for holding off, I'm still baffled by it but it might even have been a prior agreement that Warhammer Forge were allowed to have a go to see if the interest is really there. After which the Chaos Dwarves could be put among the 'mini' army supplement that has been rumoured. After all, the army list in Tamurkhan isn't given as a 'definitive' list but as a list from a fortress far away from the Chaos Dwarf capital. From what I understood the list in Taurkhan was bassicly more of a sort of temple honor guard. But yah. either way the point is not the main Chaos Dwarf army. All I know is I've just recently broke and ordered some infernal gaurd, but my heart still wheeps for basics chaos dwarf warriors in silly hats. XD

I dislike how forgeworld and alot of 3rd party componies seem to be obsessed with trying to "de-silly" the chaos dwarf hats. Thanks. And that is so true. Its no surprise GW would take note... especially if what I heard was true. This came from a redshirt who said he heard it from a regional manager, but CD sold something on the order of 3 to 4 times what FW was expecting. It's a distinct possiblity, FW CDs have sold extrodinarily well, far beyond their expectations according to every source in GW and FW that has been spoken to to my knowledge. Also since the Tamurkhan list is based specifically one one sect of Chaos Dwarfs they could easily do a totally different list in a similar or different flavore for regular GW, similar to how there are Cadian IG on GW and then Death Corps of Krieg on FW. Throw in the fact regular GW isn't ignoring CDs and letting only FW deal with them, what with the Lammasu, Greater Tauros and Dreadfleet Mecha-Kraken it adds credience to the possiblity

Also the FW CDs are models that don't really make up a full army on their own, lets compare them to the newest army, Ogre Kingdoms (Note that if there are multiple models with the same rules I'll count that as one thing, also note I don't own Tamurkhan the book):

OK:
10 Lords/Hero Choices including 4 named characters
4 Troop Choices
4 Special Choices
6 Rare Choices

FW CDs:
3 Lords/Hero Choices (Including the limited edition Hellsmith)
1 Troop Choice
5 Huge Warmachines
Four Large Monsters

That's including K'Daii, K'Daii Destroyers and Bull Centaurs, but no Hobgoblins since they could easily be seperate and the Seige Giant since it's available in regular Chaos armies just as much. Now that is a big difference, particularily in troops, yeah I admit you can choose between Fireglaives and their combat choices, but their still basically the same unit, just with an upgrade. Also if you look at that, out of the thirteen different things, nine were basically 'big' FW stuff, which couldn't really translate to regular GW without a redisign (e.g. Bale Tauros or Skullcracker).

So if GW did decide to do a Chaos Dwarf army book that wasn't based around one army of the evil little stunties they could easily make an entire new range of CDs without touching on the FW models (aside from Bull Centaurs due to them being a staple in CDs). Add in that since the FW sold amazingly well they'd probably sell great too, and that if you introduced a cheaper basic troop than the Infernal Guard people would probably snap that up to fill up their FW CD armies or even consider starting one when they wouldn't have before due too cost. Yeah it makes a lot of sense for GW to do this.

Something also worth note was not only did they not make any figures for basic foot troops, they didn't even make rules for them, take that however you want but to me that kind of suggests that they're not doing it so as not to clash with GW's rules for them if that ever happens.

Will they do it? Well unless their already working on it we won't know for a long time, especailly with the rumored 6th edition of 40k and several other army books supposedly in the works.

1) Alter how they package the Chaos Dwarf Warriors, meaning you'd get a whole regiment for the pricetag of a squad of Guardsmen.

or

2) Make a conversion kit for the plastic Dwarfs.

I only know that FW have done a fair bit of conceptual work and already got a lot more CD material that didn't make it into tamurkhan.

So presumably they will want to make another book at some point. GWs design studio are like the fans they feed off of the hype and build armies that interest them. CD had zero hype and were on such a far back burner because there wasn't anyone in the design studio with a vested interest.
