Need help Working with GreenStuff - Beginner and intermediate

I have been getting more and more interested in the P&M Blogs on Dakka. I fashion myself in my 40k hobby group as more art-oriented (I am currently creating random models for the sole purpose of kitbashing/converting)...however I'm not that good at it. I've used some Green Stuff and have been getting a lot better recently, but I could still use some help. Are there any in-depth articles on practices and advice for Green Stuff usage for high detail? (a la I see people making custom Aquila's on their marines or conversions).

I've read as much as I could find on yakface's post with the FAQ...I was just wondering if there was more detailed help out there.

Cheers!

You can probably find a lot of videos on youtube. The other main thing to do is just to slap some GS down and practice making what you need. Fundamentally you are trying to make impressions into a soft material so if you have correctly shaped tools it should just be a matter of applying one to the other. I found GS work extremely hard until I picked up some Colour Shapers and vaseline. I'm certainly no expert now, but I'm much more comfortable using these tools and I think I get a reasonable result out.

Practice, practice, practice, and remember to work in layers with plenty of lubrication. I absolutely hated the material when I first started using it, but after messing around with it off of models, suddenly something clicked.

As for tutorials, I've found that by and large, sculpting is sculpting. Even if it's not for a piece you plan to recreate, don't pass up any decent tutorials. Skills transfer from project to project and having a larger "toolbox" is never a bad thing. Don't have links to the ones I've found most helpful handy, because I've read so damn many, at this point. Youtube has a ton of videos, but quality varies widely (same with Dakka).

If you see any P&M threads with good sculpting work, pop in and see if the OP has made any tutorials, or can point you in the direction of any. Those that sculpt more and more recently usually have a better sense of where to send a relative newbie than someone like me.

Awesome, thanks guys. I'll start trolling Youtube for some tutorials, and get to practicing!

Cheers!
