I love oathstones and would take them in a Strollaz list always. Also I could see their use against a army that needs to break you on the charge *cough*bretonnia*cough*

Re:Oathstones

Once a Dwarf unit places an oathstone, a maneuver army like Bretonnia can safely ignore it and go smash everything else, secure that the anchored unit cannot charge into their flanks.

I suppose you could put a Thane with an oathstone in ALL of your units, but that is quite expensive. At that point, I will just throw everything I have at ONE of your units, smash it, and then wander off with enough VP for the win.

Oathstones

My main problem with the oathstone is that the character can never leave the designated unit, and no other characters may join it. I really like to have the flexibility to swap characters in and out of units as needed.

Also, once its dropped, the unit plus that character are "locked down" and you can't pursue fleeing units, which also means no VPs (except for captured banners or killed characters).

Those two things combined mean that I haven't taken them outside of fluff/campaign lists in 8th.

They would be useful in the event of an objective game like happens every so often in tournaments.

King of the Hill, Dwarf deathstar marches into the center, lays down the oathstone and dares the enemy to budge them.

Highly situational of course.

Oathstones

Agreed it is a very situational item that honestly I have only seen ut played once by a local dwarf player whom, after tying up two hordes of 50+ Zombies and some Ghouls with a Vampire in it planted it. Ended up working as the rest of his army picked apart the unengaged undead and the fight never ended as dwarf armor saves and resurrecting bodies kept the combat going. If you play a high number of armies that outnumber you/take alot of hordes (Skaven, O&G and to a degree TK) and were able to tie down a number of your opponents forces before planting it then yes it would be worth it, otherwise id save the points for something else.
