Battlefoam -- A change of oppinion

Had a little story I wanted to share, I was at first unimpressed with Battlefoam customer service. After being persuaded to give them a second shot they made it a great experience. And then this happened.

I have the black plastic GW side by side case, not a battlefoam case.

So we got our first real winter weather of the season here in West Virginia, 1" pure ice and 1" snow. Really nasty mix, I am not a particularly small guy, aprox 6'2" 275lbs. I had just recently replaced all the foam in my black GW case with an order I put in and was taking my models with me to show some one and work on finishing my grey knight paint. I hit a patch of "couldn't tell it was ice" in the parking lot. Me and the models go head over heels and I land on my case...

My entire 2000 point list is in the case.

Of course the hard case from GW takes a beating but it flexes quite a bit, so I hold my breath and get in the car and go to where I am working dreading seeing the shattered Stormraven and the 3D print dreadnought arms and probably a broken Landraider. I get there and sit down and start unpacking the case to see what all broke. I pluck off the cover foam off the Stormraven side and looks intact I pull it out and no damage... The Dreadnought, those 3D print arms are brittle, and they were glued on... Intact! All said and done damages total up to 2 of the guys in the ISO cut outs had minor damages (broke 1 sword and one guys storm bolter arm came off.) A lot better than it could have been.

My renewed faith in battlefoam customer service and the quality of their product I am sold and look forward to dealing with them again.

Is this a testimonial for your GWS case or your Battlefoam inserts (or both)?

In either event, glad to hear your models survived that spill!

The gw case is nice but I would say it was the foams pre battle foam my 4 razorbacks, 3 dreadnoughts, lr and storm raven would have been a card board box and the paper and codexes under my right arm (where the cardboard would have been) got flung about 8-10 feet away in the fall. The gw case dosent come with a way to carry armor.

The fabric Battlefoam cases won't protect your figures if you slip and plant your rear end on them. Then again, they really aren't meant to. Still, they're not as squishy as the Sabol bags. :/

Do you own any BF cases, Breotan? No insult intended, of course, it just doesn't sound like you do.

I've got two of those BF cases (a 1520 XL and a 720). You'd be surprised just how tough they are.
They wouldn't work well as chairs, but a FULLY LOADED BF case is quite resilient. I'm certain there would be model breakage, but not too much. These things are far from just being fabric.

Eric

My point is that they're tougher than you give them credit for, while also indicating that I'm not blindly ignorant to the fact that a 200+ lb man falling on them would still do damage, so am not claiming as much.

Eric

Re:Battlefoam -- A change of oppinion

I don't have the battle foam bags, there for can't really say what would have happened with a battle foam bag.

I got the GW hard case, but I've broken models on the soft foam just transporting. Don't get me wrong why I am attributing it to the foam not the case is if you have the GW hard case and have ever had a severe impact on it you know the plastic bends A LOT. So a similar impact with the GW foam inside would have meant I would have been mending/replacing probably 30ish infantry. And if the vehicles were in there some how they would have been shattered, like i use to carry rhinos on the right side in place of one of the trays. Yeah they would have been goners.

I am putting the foam through about a month long test, this wasn't an intended part of the test, but from chucking the box in the back of the car and rolling out I know with the old foam if I was transporting my play army that I don't really care about that much I had about 5 breakages per month on average just on being jostled around in transporting. So far, excluding the extreme situation where I landed on the case, I've experienced 1 breakage (a guys sword got imbedded in the foam and the only way to get it out of the case was to break the shoulder joint) and I'm 2 weeks into the test with 2 to go.
