Indomitable

Indomitable: This character's will so so powerful that he refuses to break or lose control under all but the most dire circumstances.
Any model that has this rule will fail leadership tests only if are rolled under any other result -except in any special case that would make that result possible- it passes even if failure is normally automatic.
Indomitable is transferred to any unit the IC has joined.

So what do you think dakka? would it make a good rule?

Re:Indomitable

The question that immediately springs to my mind is why?

There's nothing wrong with it, in particular; all it does is make the character effectively Ld. 11. But why not just give them Fearless?

Because fearless only auto passes moral tests where indomitable would make it really unlikely to fail ALL leadership tests, and as per the rules you can't have leadership 11+. It would also help out significantly against things that make you roll 3 dice for leader ship tests. I mean even if you have Ld 10 rolling 3 D6 means your going to fail more often than not.

Re:Indomitable

I think the last thing 40k needs is more ways to avoid failing morale/leadership checks. The proliferation of fearless/stubborn/ATSKNF/Combat tactics to avoid things like getting swept, pinned, and generally routed is obnoxious. Pinning weapons are largely a joke. Adding a rule that only creates even more 'Super Fearless +1' is not only unnecessary, it further relegates weapons that pin/test on leadership into uselessness.

In short, not a fan, and not needed.

Re:Indomitable

I think it would need a very, very good fluff justification.

Morale tests are what represent strength of willl; resisting the urge to run away, to dive for cover, etc. For a character who's schtick is that he has iron self-control, Fearless or a special rule that allows him to choose to pass or fail Morale tests works very well.

The only other reason I can think of for this rule is to make a character very, very unlikely to fail Psychic tests; and if you want that, just give him some variation of the old "doesn't have to roll for Psychic tests" Tzeentch rule. If you're devoted to the Chaos God of sorcery, then Psychic tests should be auto-passes; and if you aren't, they should be dangerous. They're dangerous even for the most powerful psykers in the Imperium, or the Eldar.

So; who do you intend to give this rule to, and for what purpose?

Indomitable

I was thinking about applying to a Necron Overlord to represent his Iron will, and, to be honest, I also need some sort of counter to doom of Malin'ti in a mesotic spore (or however you spell those weird tyranid words.)

Indomitable

I use the old codex, as I haven't got enough money for the new one. So I don't actually have any transports.

Another reason I think it'd be good is that it would increase a units resistance to psyker things. That and It would make sense for the warriors to have something similar -just change the name to mindless obedience, but I guess that would auto pass all leadership tests.- It also isn't the same as stubborn or fearless, and I don't know anything about ATSKNF other that SM have it.

Indomitable

Hmm. It works fine in the old necrons codex, to be honest. In fact, I kind of like it there... I'd almost go so far as to say 'put in on everything' but that's just because the 3ecrons really have nothing going for them :C
