Necromancer Counts

2400 points, heavy necromancer influence.

Necromancer Lord, level 4, master of the dead, Book of Asur (+1 cast/dispel), Ironcurse Icon
Necromancer: Level 2
Vampire: Heavy Armor, Shield, Dragon Helm, Seed of Rebirth (6+regen), sword of swiftness, wings, master strike (may trade attacks for 1 heroic killing blow attack).
2x Wraith Characters
39 Ghouls
2x19 Ghouls
2x10 Skeletons, standards
3 Vargheists
5 Hex Wraiths
Corpse Cart, w/spear
Mortis Engine with Tome
Varghulf

Ghouls form the front line with skeletons, corpse cart and Engine behind. Varghulf, Vargheists and Hex Wraiths are the hammer.
Master Necromancer casts at a +7; which means he'll likely never roll more than 2 dice, maybe 3 dice max. Vampire and Necro can single die invoke to keep ghouls sticking around longer.

The Vampire is more fluff than anything. I could have taken another necro and 2 more wraiths, but I like having the threat of ASF heroic killing blow. Wings is because the conversion is awesome, and you never know when you want to leap out of a unit and go thump something (like warmachine/fast cav/hero on foot). Near the engine, that vampire has a 3+ armor save, 5+ regenerate and 2+ ward vs fire, making her fairly survivable.

Magic wise, I'm counting on beefing up my skeleton units a bit, and maybe raise some zombie units as well. The whole lore is really good, and with +7 to cast I can use less dice to get more spells off successfully, overwhelming my opponents defense.

-Matt

I think your a little light with your hammers, 5 hex wraiths put out 5 attacks, they are going to be put to much better use as harassers.
Your core is made up of a lot of small units which could be really, really bad. If you fail to raise the skeletons above starting before they get in combat they will be wiped out before you get the chance to raise more. Not being able to raise the ghouls beyond starting is going to present the same problem.

Necromancer Counts

Thanks for the feed back.
A dispel scroll would be great, but where to get the 25 points?
Vampire: Master strike is worth 15 points. Yeah, it's not great, but really, it's only 15 points. Dreadknight is nice, but I never like being forced to challenge and accept. I really want wings, I know I've won several games because of a very fast moving hero would can leap out of units when needed.
I could drop the vampire, and replace with another necro with scroll, and another wraith to lead the ghouls; that would save me about 50 points.

I'd not combine skeletons, because of only having a single standard in the army worried me. I could combine the ghouls, run a 2nd block of 28 (+2 wraiths), that sounds pretty good really.

As for my hammers, none of them hammer hard enough to hit alone. All of them are extremely fast. The idea will be to flank and combi-charge. Hex wraiths taking up the bulk of a frontage while putting a varghulf into a corner works wonders.

As for crumbling, these units bounce back really quickly.
In a magic phase where I only have 6 dice, I'd throw 2 dice at invoke 3 times. You can expect something like:
Invoke 6"/12" range going off on a 14
Invoke 6" range, going off on a 11
Invoke 6" range, going off on a 10
6 dice to get 35 of successful casting results is pretty tough to stop. Any one of those gives ASF to the front line.
With a 7-9 power dice phase, I should be able to get another two spells off successfully, and greatly overwhelm my opponents ability to dispel.

I've already seen blocks of only 20 ghouls with ASF with re-rolls to hit and wound. It isn't pretty.

-Matt
