IG: Enclosed Crew Compartment Viable?

I'm thinking of running two Colossus in my IG army and I am wondering if it is worth the points to give them both enclosed crew compartments, at 15 pts they are not a steal, but it seems like an understandable price. I guess if I have to leave them somewhat exposed then it can be worth it, but does it really help all that much? I guess if I completely hide them its a non-issue, but then there is no reduction in scatter which seems like a big negative. Help me out, what would you suggest?

IG: Enclosed Crew Compartment Viable?

The original leafblower list used enclosed compartment and camo netting on the medusas, partly because it looks cool, and partly because the tactic was to try to hide the medusas behind the other tanks for consistent 3+ cover saves.

A colossus isn't going to be moving around, though, so it's much easier for enemy shooters to line up shots on a static position. Realistically, probably it's either completely out of LoS, or dead.

Not on a Colossus as it can only fire indirect, it should never be in LOS.
It Depends on what else you have in the list.
A nice big Russ or 2 to distract attention off of them as well as hide behind? Then No

If not, only if you have points spare (Guard always do i find).

Re:IG: Enclosed Crew Compartment Viable?

Not worth the points IMO. I run a squadron of 2 Colossi in my usual IG list, and between terrain, my other vehicles and the squadron rules they've almost always got a cover save. That cover save will do more than an enclosed crew compartment, because opponents will often opt for a target that won't bounce half their shots back.

Now camo netting ... they need to be stationary anyways, and should be getting a cover save anyways. That might be a better investment. IMO, increasing your odds of avoiding the hit altogether is better than improving your odds on the damage table itself.

Camo netting only works if the medusa doesn't move. Lacking indirect fire, the medusa taking a parking lot cover save practically guarantees that whatever the medusa is shooting against will as well.

Roboute wrote:Now camo netting ... they need to be stationary anyways, and should be getting a cover save anyways. Reducing all damage you take by 1/3 is certainly better than reducing just vehicle destroyed results by 1/3. Plus, camo nets stop damage, while ECC just makes it less awful (you're probably still not shooting, though).

IG: Enclosed Crew Compartment Viable?

Ok, so if i give them both cammo netting then that's the same points for the squadron and it sounds like a good deal. Ive just heard mostly that you dont want multiple barrages together because the second shot (if it scatters) touches directly outside the first blast, meaning you probably wont hit too much of your original target. I haven't used barrages much at all before so I wonder if this would be a good option or is it better to leave them in two separate squads so they don't affect each other's shooting.

By the way, I will also have a LRBT and a LR Demolisher in this list so that should take some attention off of the artillery
