My idea for a Beginners League

I am looking to help some of my non-gamer friends get into the 40k scene.

Many of these guys have never played a non-milton bradley boxed game so I am trying to make it VERY simple but at the same time fun.

I am looking at trying to make it an "objective based" league rather than one that requires winning to do well.

IE : players get points for playing one game of each of the deployment types.

OR : Players get points if they "see a perils of the warp happen". (some armies stay away from the warp so I figure its an accomplishment at the newbie level just to see it happen and learn how it works.) So if this happens in a game then both players get the points for it occurring.

I am also thinking about giving a point to someone who fields a fully painted army.

Or even points for guys who help other guys get their models put together or painted.

I am trying to make it a rewards based system rather than penalizing anyone for coming and learning.

Does anyone have any ideas that would make this idea better? I am VERY open to any ideas.

My idea for a Beginners League

I think that its a very good idea! Maybe players who suffer a potw fail should get a couple of points as compensation

I say good luck in bringing more gamers into the fold. I might actually use a similar idea to get some of my friends into general wargaming.

Re:My idea for a Beginners League

I'd go low points and maybe consider a reduced FoC to prevent anyone from getting too spammy, though there's issues with that too. For starting an army, I kind of like the Adepticon Team Tournament format. 1000 points, basically half a FoC, with 1 HQ and 1 troop required minimum. You can take a max of 1 of each of the other slots, and you get one floating slot to put in either Elite, Fast, or Heavy, Even if you play that as a single player, it's still playable by just about any army you can come up with. Best thing is that you could slap together actual teams from that and get even more people involved.

That is an awesome idea!!

I was trying to think of a way to keep the level fair. The modified FOC is a perfect way to do just that.

Thanks sir.

Re:My idea for a Beginners League

Well, just keep in mind to be gentle with the chart. Do anything too strange and not all armies will translate well. If you go as low as 500 points for this thing, you should most assuredly only mandate 1 troop. Tau/Eldar is just plain unfair when they need two troops at that point level.

Another cool thing Adepticon does is give you a counter you can use at the start of certain missions that let's you take one non-vehicle non-troop and count it as scoring. That lets you get by with the 1-3 troop choices. Again though, I really recommend playtesting this stuff before you get too carried away with it, because there's always potential for abuse.

My idea for a Beginners League

Well a good thing is that most of these players are very new. Most of have not had models for more than a month. The players that are involved that are not new are all on the same page that this is to be for fun and that its to help new players learn rules and have a good time above all else.
