Request for a new forum.

I know I am quite new here but I have an idea for a new sub-forum that I've seen succesfully implemented on other forums.

A rant forum.

The amount of posts and threads attacking GW games, aswell as other games to a lesser extent, is astounding. This is suppsoed to be a Warhammer forum first and foremost right? But a lot of people seem to loathe GW, those who will leave because they don't like GW games will have left, so those who remain are unlikely to stop ranting.

A rant forum would give people an area to debate, rant and generally let off steam with whatever is bugging them about GW or any other game. The people who enjoy arguing can go there and argue aware without lowering the overall "community spirit" it would easily be possible to achieve on a forum filled with people who all love eseentialy the same thing, whether it is GW games or any other, we have pretty common interests.

Of course a forum is supposed to allow debate, it's kind of the point but many discussions seem to descend into "no, my game is better than your game" which isn't productive and just makes me feel down about this forum and wargaming in general. I'm sure most people here are aware when they post something that is biast or ranty, even if they only admit it to themselves, so the mods could most often put faith in the users disgression. When a discussion does descend into petty squabbling it would be a simple matter for a mod to move the thread to the "rant forum". This should encourage discussions to be actual discussions.

This combined with everyone trying to remain civil and not persuade people to their camp and make people question a hobby they enjoy would, imo, make this forum a much nicer place to discuss Warhammer and other tabletop games.

I don't see how this could do anything but good, the only people who are harmed are the ones who delibratly try to troll and wind people up. If people have no intention of pissing off/upsetting people/persuading others their game is better then surely they wouldn't have any problem posting in a forum where people could go if they want to listen to arguments against their game, join in a *ahem* "heated debate" or whatever.

This isn't me defending GW, I just think that it is harmful to the community, no one likes a hostile enviroment people come on here for enjoyment. And yes, I know the internet is the internet and there will allways be arguing, petty squabbling, name-calling and so on but I really think this would help to reduce the problem.

We already had this discussion a while ago. I think daedalus summed it up nicely.

daedalus wrote:Honestly, as much as I would like for this, it would not get rid of the snide comments that show up in N&R section anytime anything new comes out, and people would still clutter DD and 40k Discussions with complaining. People have a hard enough time hitting the right forum to post as is. Being consumed with nerd rage such that they must vent their fury online will not make sure they post more accurately.

And, ironically, this belongs down in Nuts & Bolts.

In addition. If you hadn't noticed, there's a place for 40k discussion, and for Fantasy discussion. If you want pro-GW posts and feelings, I'd suggest you'd look there. The general Discussion subforum is for anyone.

Both what you said and daedalus are fair points.

However at least people wouldn't have the excuse that there is no where else for them to post what they think. And I think it is stupid to think that it would get rid of all the snide comments but it would reduce the amount of threads and threads that start innocent and get out of hand could then be moved to that forum.

As I said it would be foolish to think it would solve the problem, or make it go away, however I'm pretty sure it would reduce it, as I've seen it work elsewhere.

Maybe a better name than "rant forum" would be something like "Game system comparison" which sounds better but would essentially be the same thing.

And could a mod move this please, my bad...

Firstly support for a game does not indicate support for a company or its practises. Liking 40K/WHFB does not equate to liking GW. There are plenty of people here who love the game but hate the company.

Secondly, if there are so many dissenting opinions cropping up, then perhaps you have to question why that is. I don't see the same thing for other manufacturers. Granted, they aren't the same size but PP doesn't generate even proportionally the same amount of rage that GW business decisions do. I wonder why that is? Maybe because people are genuinely angry about GW prices, practises and business decisions.

Thirdly, the focus of a site does not determine its bias. Just because this is a 40K/WHFB centric site does not preclude criticism. To be honest, the whining about the whining is just as annoying as the criticism. If you don't like what a thread is about, feel free not to read or post in it but by whinging about it, you simply propagate the situation.
