Help with Khador

Ok, I think I've mentioned a couple of times that my friends and I are pretty new to WM. One of us just bought the Khador half of the starter set. He desperately wants to use Karchev (not sure if that's the right guy...the caster who's also a jack), and he's kind of struggling with it. He wants to go jack-heavy. He likes the Spriggan and Kodiak (but is thinking of dropping the Kodiak because it hasn't worked out for him yet...dang undead).

At any rate, what models/units can I use to tempt him away from just trying to build straight out of the tier list?

Side note: does everyone start off just building from their caster's tier? I also keep building tier only lists...

Help with Khador

Tiers have some use, and my big problem is some play to a caster's strengths, while others play to their character, some are gimmicks, some play very differently than usual, and some just don't do much of anything.

For units, I'd suggest widowmakers, winterguard (with officer and gregorivich) or kayazy.

While pretty typical first picks, it makes a lot of sense why: they're all autonomous. This means karchev's lack of support isn't a problem. Also, all excel at anti-infantry, meaning they cover the area Karchev has the worst problems with.

Help with Khador

I personally like Doom Reavers with Karchev. They excel at taking down infantry as well as Warjacks, and their usual downside of being unable to receive warcaster support doesn't matter in the slightest in a Karchev list. Kayazy with Underboss work quite well, too, but I personally prefer Winter Guard with IF casters, as Defense 14 is still fairly easy to hit in my experience.

For warjacks, I usually take Spriggans, Beast-09, and a Marauder for movement shenanigans. Reach warjacks are excellent choices for Karchev, and a minimum of 2 attacks is a must to get the most out of Unearthly Rage. Beast-09 is especially nice, as UR'd Thresher under Murderous will hit damn near anything, and will crit more often than not. Not strictly necessary, of course, as you're probably making 2 to 3 POW 19 attacks at your target, but there's no kill like overkill. The Marauder works rather nicely, as it's not only one of our cheapest warjacks, but it can choose between a pair of POW 16 rams or the highest power melee attack in our arsenal. Over all, a very focus-efficient choice and a great tech piece.

Re:Help with Khador

nope. Not me.

I started off expanding my khador with a handful of casters and some basic units, and worked my way up from there to *all* the casters and most of the units and mercenaries. i can comfortably field a huge variety of red machine 'o' doom. Its still a work in progress though.

Tier lists? Meh. Only one tier list interests me. And that is one that i have gone all out with. epic butcher, and doom reaver spam. 2 reasons. epic butcher is my favourite caster, and doom reavers are what got me into the game. So yeah. i can take it to 25pts right now, and 35 with a bit of a stretch. I plan on taking it to 50pts. So if you see a guy with a jack, eButcher, fenris, wardog, yuri, and 48 doom reavers, thatll be me.

again, its not all that competitive (it has serious match up issues) but damn it, its fun to play. beyond the epic coolness of eButchers doom reaver spam list, the tier lists dont grab me. you dont "need" them. just go with what you fancy.
