Additions to the Chaos Codex

Hello everyone,

Being a chaos player, I am quite interested in chaos, as you can guess, but I think the army lacks something and is oversimplified IMO.
These are just a couple of ideas of mine that ight be a good addition to the CSM codex, or maybe not, and they are terrible. You be the judge.

So here are my ideas, and feel free to comment feedback and opinions.

Countless dark and horrible things have been created over the years by the demented forces of chaos. Many, mechanical abominations. Others, horrific demons. The deathless schism is a result of these paths combined, much like the soul grinder, blight drone, and brass scorpion. The schism takes the form of an enormous combat servitor but covered in masses of tentacles, claws and many other terrible mutations. They are often armed with large, warp-fuelled artillery, capable of easily wrecking a tank in a single shot.

DEATHLESS SCHISM 80 pts
Ws: 4 BS: 4 s: 5 t: 5 w: 4 i: 4 a: 4 LD: 10 sv: 4+

FOC: heavy support.

Composition: 1 deathless schism.
Unit type: monstrous creature.
Weapons and wargear: close combat weapon.

SPECIAL RULES: fearless, fleet

INCREDIBLE DURABILITY: deathless schisms count as having a 5+ invulnerable save.

OPTIONS:
The schism may take any of the following:
-	Ceramite plating for +30 pts (gives the schism a 3+ armour save)
-	Deadly mutations for +20 pts (gives the schism +1 strength)

The schism may take one of the following:
-	Plasma ray for +35 pts
-	Slaughter cannon for + 20 pts
-	hellbeamer for +30 pts

PLASMA RAY:
Range: 24” strength: 8 AP: 1 type: assault 1

SLAUGHTER CANNON:
Range: 12” strength: 7 AP: 2 type: assault 1

HELLBEAMER:
Range: 24” strength: 5 AP: 3 assault 3

There is one abomination employed by those devoted to nurgle which has recently earned great fear from all. This is the festus plague ram. These horrors are designed to smash into enemies entrenched in cover and overwhelm them with a flurry of deadly blows and swarms of vile, bloated flies. The reason for these bloated terrors to carry so many of these strange flies and deadly diseases is that they are host to the same plague that typhus carries; the destroyer hive.

FESTUS PLAGUE RAM 180 pts
Ws: 4 BS: 4 s: 6 t: 5 w: 5 i: 4 a: 6 LD: 8 sv: 3+

FOC: elite.

Unit composition: 1 plague ram.
Unit type: monstrous creature.
Weapons and wargear: festus sprayer, rot fist.

FESTUS SPRAYER:
Range: template strength: 5 AP: 4 type: assault 1, rending

ROT FIST:
A rot fist counts as a power fist. It also incorporates a laser carbine.

SPECIAL RULES: fearless, furious charge.

PLAGUE SHIELD: a plague shield gives the plague ram a 3+ invulnerable save in close combat and a 4+ invulnerable save against ranged attacks. The plague shield also gives the plague ram assault and defensive grenades, as thousands of flies swarm out from the cracks in the plague ram’s armour.

LASER CARBINE:
Range: 24” strength: 4 AP: 5 type: rapid fire, rending

Alpha-sigmatas are large war machines, not dissimilar to defilers, utilised by the armies of chaos. They possess the same ‘torso’ as a defiler, but instead of having a platform from which claws and limbs are wielded, they have two very long legs ending in barbed claws called siegeclaws, which are adept at tearing enemies limb from limb in melee. Where the ‘arm’ guns on a defiler are, there are short range, rapid fire weapons called grenadier cannons which are sometimes replaced with the longer ranged bombardier cannons.

ALPHA-SIGMATA LINEBREAKER 150 pts

Ws: 5 BS: 4 s: 6 t: 5 w: 5 i: 4 a: 6 LD: 8 sv: 3+

FOC: heavy support.

Composition: 1 Linebreaker.
Unit type: monstrous creature.
Weapons and wargear: siegeclaw, grenadier cannon.

GRENADIER CANNON:
Range: 12” strength: 5 AP: 5 assault 6

SIEGECLAW: a siegeclaw lets the unit wielding it reroll all failed rolls to hit in close combat.

SPECIAL RULES: fearless, fleet.

OPTIONS:
Replace grenadier cannon with the following:
-	Bombardier cannon for 30 pts

take siegeclaw for 20 pts

BOMBARDIER CANNON:
Range: 18” strength: 5 AP: 5 type: assault 12

So what do you think?

Re:Additions to the Chaos Codex

Deathless Schism:

I think BS4 is more appropriate here; if you want him at BS6 he needs maybe +25-30 points and I think more justification in the fluff. I like the options but I feel like the Hellbeamer is too good, especially if combined with BS6. IMO it should be the most expensive upgrade, maybe +35-40 points.

Festus Plague Ram:

I really like the fluff on this guy, and I think he'd be very intimidating ingame. He's basically a walking tank, which is pretty cool. But with T6 and 5 wounds I have a feeling he'd also be nigh unkillable; I suggest either a lower invulnerable save (possibly 5+ all around), or lowering him to T5. I know this would open him up to suffering ID, but he has so many wounds I feel like you have to provide at least a slight weakness. If he does stay at T6, I'd suggest dropping the wounds to 3 or 4. Or you could get really crazy and move him up to T7 or T8 but drop the invulnerable save and provide maybe 3 wounds.

Alpha Sigmata Linebreaker:

Again, I have a problem with T6 and so many wounds. Fix that and I really like this guy. I like the idea of just spraying the opposition with grenades, but like the Hellbeamer I think the Bombardier Cannon is a no-brainer upgrade as it is. For +30 points it would be a bit more fair IMO. Also I don't know if the Siegeclaw should be part of the standard equipment; I say make it an upgrade for +20-25 points.

Overall nice job!

Schism: Horridly broken. BS4 and 120pts to start off, then we'll talk.

Ram: Much more sensible. Drop one Wound and drop Rending from the weapons (Nurgle sprays of filth are typically represented with Poisoned (4+) in other parts of the fluff), then I could see it being playable.

Linebreaker: Drop a Wound and make it WS4, seems kind of nasty as-is.

I don't exactly think these creatures have much of a reason to exist; Chaos already has a lot of fancy toys (plus five times as many Apocalypse datasheets as everyone else), these seem pretty superfluous within the structure of the Codex.

Thanks for the feedback Sock I found it very useful. Your suggested changes have been made.

Additions to the Chaos Codex

Even now, I'd say the Schism is over-costed.

T5, 4+ is not hard to take down on a monstrous creature. Even with 5 wounds. I agree on the BS4 being much more suitable. With 4 attacks he could be pretty good in close combat, but he'd be highly unlikely to reach it and even then is 'only' Str5. I've give him a 30pts-ish points drop and/or fleet.
Then you have the other problem of him being a single FoC in the Heavy Support Section.

I'd say the Plague Ram is about 20pts over costed. Whilst he's tougher thanks to invulnerable saves, he's not incredibly so and still a single MC at T5. A DCCW makes no difference here as it only works on walkers.

The sigmata is similarly over-costed IMHO, he could easily be 150pts IMHO, again due to being MC and only T5(and no invulnerable). He makes it up somewhat via a ranged weapon, fleet and close combat capability, but your opponent would be crazy to let that thing near him, particularly as, again, it's in the HS slot. Btw, his grenadier-cannon doesn't have an AP value.

----

Whilst they're original (kudos) and not overpowered IMHO (kudos), I do think a lot of them makes little sense; be it crazy number of attacks, odd WS, In4 and no FNP on a Nurgle-creature, a 3++ on a monstrous creature, odd ranged weapons, filling a niche already filled in Chaos armies or competing in the best FoC slot...

Again, I think they're original and not overpowered due to low toughness and easy targeting and no ranged ability, I don't think I could see them in a Chaos Codex.
