I'd just use army cases with bits of the foamtry cut out. But then again, I'm a GW lapdog (with controversy by buying Mantic Products!)

One option is to simply not glue your cruisers and battleships to their flight stands. I found a way to avoid that. I clipped off the thin top bit of the stand, and then widened the hole on the model with a drill. It only needs to be ever so slightly wider and the stand fits in really well.

I recommend these. Ordered 16 of them for a couple of Full Thrust fleets. For small ships, I put mags on the stems and the bottom of the ships....works fine. heck, even works for plastic cruisers.

for big metal ships (i.e. battleships) after looking at a lot of options, I went with stands from cor-sec engineering.

I lay my big ships down in it (the ones still on stands) and then put a layer on top of that. I have my smaller ships and fighters etc. in a smaller box that fits on top of that.

long term, I am magnitizing all my ships, and will put them in some sort of foam case (depends on the size of my fleet).

I use "pistol cases" found at various sporting goods stores (or walmart, if in the states).

If you do not have access to these, simple eggcrate foam, or even pluck foam trays would work well (especially if not on stands).

Eventually, I will post pics once I get my fleet case done, but it may be months due to other project (i.e. 40k) backlogs...
