Advanced Cygnar Tactics

Hello! I'm in an odd places. I love the ascetic of cygnar storm knights, storm cav and storm striders. I own eStryker, pStryker, and Pnemo (although eStryker is secretly my favorite). I've played quite a few games and I'm not sure where to go with my money. I feel that there is an excellent assault cygnar list I could make that utilizes the crazy dmg of stormguard and stormblades. I just don't know how to build it. I see precursors and I see a good front line, but I need more. How do I get a charge in such an army? Are precursors enough of a tanky front line? (for that matter does deflection effect them?) There is very little speed there. What do you guys think? I know I'll have a storm strider for close support and the plus 2 rat for stormgurad/blades helps too. But what are some ideas?

Thanks guys, any and all suggestions are great.

Advanced Cygnar Tactics

Aesthetic is visual style, ascetic is self-deprivation.

A few bits of not-so advanced advice;

eStryker's feat works better with things that generate more damage (for instance, electroleap). I've also gotten surprised by running and feating to get significantly further threat range with his feat. That's also what Stryker's upkeep is for (though that generally requires a Lancer)

Constance is an obvious choice for getting more threat range out of melee.

TrencherChain Gun covering fire (and equivalents) will also help minimize infantry attacking you in melee (yes, people don't like them, I happen to)

Shield wall, defensive line, arcane shield, and deflection should all help get your melee troops there intact. Yes, deflection works on Precursors b/c it isn't targeting them (also, be careful for magical sprays not targeting the front line: they're not immune, just untargetable)

Personally, I almost always try to fit in gun mages or the black 13th in any list they can get in, for some accurate ranged support.

Hope some of that helps.

Re:Advanced Cygnar Tactics

If you want a "tanky" unit I would honestly suggest full Boomhowlers(mercs) + Murdoch(Cygnar Merc UA from wrath) and a journeyman warcaster. Then you can get the boomhowlers up to like armor 21 with deflection and arcane shield against ranged with a 4+ tough and not much will be able to touch them at ranged. They are also sweet in melee and imo way better then precursors at taking and dishing damage, let alone they can make use of assault with Murdoch AND can run and remain at full armor, while precursors must only advance due to shield wall.

If you want to stick with the cygnar only theme, then Sword Knights are a better then Precursors IMO for a tarpit, but Precursors are a cool unit and either one is a decent tarpit option. You can also get either of these and pick up Rhupert, the Piper of Ord(a merc solo) who can then give these units tough making them a waaay better tarpit.

This is a solid frontline option and you can put your Storm Knights behind them as a 2nd wave(else they will get killed by any range your opponent has as they are a priority target.

There are a lot of options available, but imo Boomhowlers and Murdoch are a 100% good buy for any cygnar player as you will use them in a ton of armies and are one of the best tarpits in the game, else get Sword Knights/Precursors and Rhupert.

Get Junior also, eStryker and Ironclads love them some arcane shield too!

For just a tarpit, yeah, Sword knights are dirt cheap. Precursors, while slower, wreck heavies, so it's really what you want to get out of them.
