New BA list

Hey guys.
Me again, with a new updated and after some help to improve this list.

Libarian
Jump Pack
infernus Pistol
Powers - Sanguine Sword, Blood lance - 140

Assault Squad
10 man
2 melta guns
1 power fist - 235

Assault Squad
10 man
2 melta guns
1 power fist - 235

Assault Squad
10 man
2 melta guns
1 power fist - 235

Sanguinary Priest
+ 2 Priests = 3
with jump packs - 225

Sternguard
4 combi meltas
Drop pod - 180

Vanguard
Sargeant with glaive encarine
4 power weapons - 250

This list is exactly 1500 points

I intend on deep striking everything. I know the sternguard will turn up on the first turn and that could go either way, be shot up or blow up a tank, or take out a full squad using special ammo depending on the squad
The Libarian will go with 1 squad of assault marines and each squad will be accompanied by a Sang priest to benefit from FnP which is a big help.

I was thinking I could drop the sternguard and take a Chaplain, but not to sure as the sternguard seem to be very strong from what I've read and experienced in the past when playing my Tyranids.

Again, any help is greatly appreciated
Much love to all those whom help.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I was also thinking, I could drop 1 squad of Assault marines and also dropping the infernus pistol from the Libby and taking another squad of vanguard equipped the same as the previous squad...

The list is pretty good until you get down to the Sternguard. These do not suit the Blood Angels assault style army and a single Pod, which comes down unsupported will be dead meat just like anything inside it. I would lose the unit altogether.

Unless you have listed it, your Vanguard have no jump packs, they don't get them standard.

You could add another unit of Vanguard, though I think one unit is enough, to be honest. I would add another Assault Marine unit with dual flamers so you have some anti horde punch. They would also add more numbers as well.

That would probs be the best idea. Spamming out on assault marines is good for getting stuck in.
Could I not drop a squad and have sommet support the sternguard? Coz I quite like the idea of dropping in and rapid firing a unit to death.
If so what would be best to support them? That's if there is anything atall?

Thanks

Re:New BA list

I've gotten a different point of view. I like BA pod lists, but you need more than one. Mercer's right about getting shot up being the lone drop pod on the table.

I like to take 3 pods and put at least one Furioso in (don't forget to pop smoke when it comes in). DC also aren't bad out of a pod if it lands right (relentless bolters are nice). Pods are nice, because they rarely mishap and you're guaranteed some come in turn 1. If you take pods use them to disrupt the backfield and absorb fire while your jumpers come on (DS) or across the table.

I've tried the stern/pod with a librarian and it works pretty well. Take Blood Lance and Shield. Throw a priest in there as well. You've got a resilient shooting base with 5+ cover and feel no pain. I like combi flamers on 1 or two instead of meltas in case of hordes.

Those vanguard seem way expensive to me. You could easily put a Furioso in a pod for that or at least take another libby one of you jump squads to give them sheild.

Then, as previously mentioned, you will lose the Sternguard and Drop Pod in the opponent's following turn. You have then just traded two units for one, not a very good trade in my opinion.

Re:New BA list

That's why you take multiple pods. Make your opp use target priority. Either he shoots at stuff in pods or jumpers, if they're on the table. When I take 3 pods, each one has a good unit. I like Furioso's, DC or DC Dreads. They're all things he can't ignore. I want him to shoot at the pods.

The benefit of stern/pod is you'll get at least one round of powerful shooting and potentially a 5+ cover save. Sterns w/meltas and a Blood Lance libby can crack a lot of things then can put out ap3 shots if they live.

Plus, if you drop the pod anywhere near an objective, instant contesting. Then he has to waste a unit's shooting on the pod to clear the objective.

And all the while, oh look, my jumpers just got up to 18" closer and can hopefully charge.

The vanguard do seem very expensive, I'm just thinking if on 2nd turn 2 or 3 squads drop down, I wanna try be in combat as soon as possible so that I can keep another squad safe from being charged if ya see what I mean?
What ever they hit, unless it's a horde their bound to do some serious damage.
Also I was toying with having a dread in a pod, but stupid me assembled it as Deathcompany because at first I was going to do a small elite dc based army.

Re:New BA list

I know what you mean with the Vanguard squad, but just remember they still scatter, even if it is only up to 6 inches. If you scatter even 1 inch in the wrong direction, you can lose your charge with Heroic Intervention. I've always found it tough to get them to scatter where I want (66% chance of scatter). If you try to account for this by placing your VV's closer to the enemy, you can scatter on top of them and then its a mishap.

You could take Dante, but then you lose HI.

BTW, DC dreads with fists (not claws) are pretty beastly - run and pop smoke from a pod - Igores 1 & 2's, w/ 5 S10 attacks at I5 on the charge. Plus, it's a Troop, so it doesn't take up an elite/heavy slot. One of the best units in the game. On the downside you have to take a DC squad to unlock it, it has rage and FA12 which means grenades can still hurt.

Why would you fire at the Pod contesting a objective turn 1 when you have all game to shoot it and more meatier stuff is coming your way?

The only other thing I could think of then would to be many drop 1 assault squad, take a 2nd sternguard squad and then take a furiouso dread in a pod?
That way there are 3 pods dropping and forcin the enemy to take choices to kill one coz by the time they all dropped the assault marines would be in combat.
