I have a couple armies of 40k one being orks and I love how random and awsome they are, the local gaming store is having a fantasy campaign and im thinking on geting orks, any advice on how to build a army I have not played fantasy before, some of the units I like are, gorbad, night goblins and fanatics, black orks, and boar boys, mangler squiqs, giant spider, and lobers. the way I see me playing is having a mangler and fanatics center of the board to disrupt enemy formations with gorbad and boar boys flanking with support from lobbers and posibly a giant spider, Im not suer of how many units ur allowed per slot and the pts considering I dont have a codex yet but I was curious to see if any one had similer builds and advice on a good army build. \
as far as points I think the norm is 2000 but the store hasnt decided yet.

thanks for the look over hope to get some feed back.

First the terminologies are different when moving from 40k to fantasy. Orcs, not orks, army book, not codex.

Not too much of an avid orc player but some comments on your likes

gorbad
Unsure about him, in Fantasy most SC are overpriced but I never really heard much talk about him

night goblins and fanatics
Solid Choices for core

black orcs
Pricey but powerful. Going against big things they can get S7 first turn and also have dual choppas for enemy units

boar boys
I hear they're a bit overpriced. They didnt see much action last edition but again I'm not too much of an orc guy. Big Uns and Spears will put them alongside other elite cav in terms of power but not armor. Plus Animosity. Savage ones though can pump out a lot of attacks

mangler squiqs
I have heard nothing but praise for these things. Almost a bit of an auto include

giant spider
Decent I hear

lobers
Solid artillery unit

thanks for the breakdown, so as far as units how many can I have in each slot? so should I focus more on a huge mixture or just focus on one unit to fill the slots. I think id like it better to be mixed allthough im not sure. I wanted to do some boar units to be able to outflank - or get in the action while everything else moved forward. is this to pricey of a stratagy ? or should I have fanatics followed by black orcs, with lobbers' or what ever with support. - if special characters are to pricey any good advice on an hq unit since im wanting to lean towards a horde army? last but not least does magic make or break the game- will i need some? thanks again for the advice

Automatically Appended Next Post:
just got the stats its gonna start at 500 pts and every 2 weeks move up 200 pts ending at 1500 pts.

First of all, your fanatics hide in your Night Goblin units and will only come out when an enemy unit, monster or character are 8" close to your Night Goblin unit.

I wouldn't use Boar Boyz in 500 point games since they cost 16 points each, and that's without any upgrades at all. Instead I would use Wolf Riders -- they are cheap, fast and awesome at flanking and can have bows to mow down a couple of units before going in.

Your army must include AT LEAST 3 units (unless you guys play with house-rules) and two (2) of them must be core units. You must spend at least 25% of your total points on your core units, and you can spend up to 25% of your total points on Lords and 25% on Heroes, but you don't have to.

If you want to run a close combat general I would suggest you to pick a Orc Big Boss or Goblin Big Boss since they're both cheap but good.

If you want a wizard to be your general I will suggest a Savage Orc Shaman instead of a regular Orc Shaman. For only 5 points more you get a +6 Ward Save AND Frenzy!

Do you want to play with a mix of all greenskin races or do you want to theme your army with mostly Orcs or Goblins?

i want only orks and goblins so when you say 3 units i take it to mean a boss and 2 troops- 40k talk i know im trying to wrap it around something i know. I got an army book from a friend this afternoon and am reading it over so far Id like to have 3 squads of night goblins with 2x1 squad squad and 3 x1squad of fanatics/ that way I can use every kind of model. should i run 20 man squads? also are there any upgrades worth it? I think I am gonna run an orc big boss, later should I make him a black orc boss when we have more pts to mess with. im thinking also to have black orcs to put the boss in and prob 1 mangler squid and then add giant spiders, what do you all think? Im completely new and do not know what I should be equipping to units also so any feed back on how to play a list like this is completely welcome.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
so for my first attempt at a 500pt list
ork - 55 pts - gonna put him with the black orcs.
2 squads of 20 night goblins with 2 fanatics each = 220
1 squad of 20 night goblins with 1 fanatic = 85
1 squad of 10 black orks - 120

total 480 / with 20 pts to spare
any advice?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
also are night goblins better with bows or close combat loads, im thinking marching the goblins up front with the black orcs behind the middle squad to support were ever its the toughest

Characters does NOT count as units so you need 3 different kind of troops, also called units -- and they can be the same type.

Night Goblins are pretty decent with bows, at least for low points game imo. If you're up against a close combat army you will force them to come to you. That means you can fire around 30 - 50 shots before they get to hit you, and once they charge you will release the fanatics and then fire your bows one more time as long as they are 4" away from you. But you will have problem with a dedicated gunline list.

Do NOT get a Black Orc Big Boss unless you plan to run them with Orc Big'Uns. They are too expensive for what they do otherwise.

Get some magic items on your Big Boss and try to focus on protection. You will find a lot of good and cheap magic items in the BRB.

With that small amount of Black Orcs I would try to make sure to flank with them or attack in the rear, at least if you're up against WoC.

But I would probably get rid of one of the Night Goblin units and get 8 Wolf Riders instead. With those you can either force the enemy to fire at them instead of your Black Orcs or hunt their warmachines or attack with them in the rear.

Re:ork help please

Gorbad is the most awesome melee bruiser WHF has to offer except archaon maybe! He´s one of the few SCs that isnt overpriced and with his Immortalz he will rip through most units like they´re snotlins.

BO WAAAGH!Boss is pretty good choice in games of 2k points and above. His armed to ta teef rule is really helpful and he´s a solid choice in terms of stats. The Orc WAAAGH!Boss aint bad but not that great in my book.
I usually run BO WAAAGH!Boss, 2x Orc Big Boss and another BO Big Boss in my 2500 games plus the shammies. Pretty heavy on lords&heroes but it worked pretty good so far.

BoarBoyz are a bit tricky and I wont take them in games below 2k points. They are not made to charge head on into something except single mages, warmashines, redirectors and other small regiments. But 10 or even more BoarBoyz to hammer into someones flank can make your day for sure. They hit pretty hard in the first round of combat and can take a decent beating from a stand&shoot reaction if there is one - charging that flank will deny that.

The core choice these days is a solid unit of savage big un´z with great shaman and lucky shrunken head. In competitive lists that is a "must have" choice it seems. More or less goes for the manglers, rock lobbaz and doom divers.
At the end of the day everything in our book is rock solid except snotlins and savage boar boyz. Giants are not the best choice and stuff like spider riders are pretty situational but that´s it.

For 500 to 1500 points games I would go with an all goblin army because Orcs are bit too expensive in the lower bracket - imho.
Goblin big bosses for example are dirt cheap and with a "big choppa" they have a decent strength.
