How to handle resin "fincast"? (40k)

I was wondering how to go about handling the resin models. I was doing FoW for a while and had resin planes. I heard that you have to wash the resin with dawn. I primed and painted the plane only to later have the paint peal off. I wanted to know how to avoid this for if/when I get more heavily into 40k again.

How to handle resin "fincast"? (40k)

I personally use dawn soap (I am sure any soap would work) and let the models soak in it for an hour or two. Then you want to clean it with an old toothbrush. Make sure not to scrub to hard or you may break a part of the model (I have).

Ah see I just rinsed it for a few minutes. Next time I'll let it go for two hours. Thank you for that tip.

Magpie wrote:I think the problem is not so much the resin as the mould release agent? The thought that I need to age my mini's like a cord of wood is strange.

How to handle resin "fincast"? (40k)

The best way to handle finecast is in an unopened blister packet as you return it to GW for a full refund since it is not a 'superior and fine product' or whatever speil they're giving these days.

But yes I believe you have to wash off the mould release. Otherwise the paint will pool.

I've had better luck with spray and primer rather than just black or white paint in terms of adherence.
