The strangest movie I ever saw was in a film class in college called Un Chien Andalou. It's a surrealist film directed by Luis Buñuel and written by Salvador Dalí (that should give you a clue as to how weird it in). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0020530/

It is by far the strangest movies I've ever seen, and way stranger than anything else that's been brought up (I mean, c'mon, if the movie has a plot, it can't be that strange).

Donnie Darko was fun and has some great scenes. They over-explain in the special features on the DVD and kind of ruin it.

U-Turn is weird in a good way. Jennifer Lopez is actually good in it, and super-hot. This is from before she became a pop star and celebrity.

Loccio wrote:

Mannahnin wrote:The Fountain is awesome. It is reasonably complex and may require multiple viewings to understand, but it's worth the effort. It's good for some art to be challenging and difficult.

Problem is, I don't want to have to watch a movie 4 or 5 times to figure out what in the heck was going on throughout that movie.

I got about halfway through the Fountain and wound up shutting it off. It just made zero sense to me.
Re:What's the strangest film you ever seen?

Funny Games...
Apparently the Director (Hanke) doesn't think people should watch Horror films, something along those lines, so he makes one... A film with a 10 minute almost completely static shot (it moves across once I think, and the women moves to turn off the TV part way through it), its actually a pretty disturbing film really. Don't know why he made a shot for shot re-make, the one 'good' thing about the film, was the actors, they really looked the part, made it almost real. Oh I know the reason, money, and seemingly the American film industry seems to think Americans don't like foreign films, so have to re-make the decent ones...

The original Casino Royale? The first hour or so I wasn't sure what I was watching.

And Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Maybe others didn't come to the same conclusion that I did, but I'm pretty sure TBE was a rip off of DD the same way Saw (the first at least) was a rip off of Se7en. Which was one of the most F'ed up movies I've ever seen-"What's in the box??" Best horror film ever. Saw was a child's forester chainsaw toy compared to a real lumberjack's chainsaw. Stupid, stupid movie. I hate ripoffs that somehow become popular, when the originals are ignored. But I digress. DD was ok, but TBE was crap. Not that I saw anyone bring it up (except maybe on the first page, which I read a week ago).

I think Saw and Se7en are different style movies all together. I liked Saw (the first one, the rest were just gore porn trash IMO) and thought the ending was pretty surprising, and its now one of those films I cant watch ever again, simply because knowing the ending, kindda ruins it.

Se7en, dear god what a fantastic movie.Easily in my top movie picks. And yea, you knew what was in the box, but you dont want him to open the thing to find out if your right or not. Also, oddly enough, I like how its always raining in that movie until the very end, its all sunny and "happy" Talk about a way to ruin the emotions in that film

Absolute wierdest I've seen is actually an 'adult' movie so don't search for it unless it's your thing, called 'Cafe Flesh' it was set in post apocolyptic world where only certain people could procreate, it was truly, truly bizare and weird!

the other one i can't recall the name, but it's general plot was people choosing children to adopt by forcibly cutting the babies from the mothers and then putting the mothers into a type of prison block where they had to kill each other and retrieve tags from the belly wounds of each woman, the last one standing was deemed the strongest woman and therefore would have the best baby, so that was the child the adoptees chose! how very morbidly strange!

nerdfest09 wrote:Absolute wierdest I've seen is actually an 'adult' movie so don't search for it unless it's your thing, called 'Cafe Flesh' it was set in post apocolyptic world where only certain people could procreate, it was truly, truly bizare and weird!

the other one i can't recall the name, but it's general plot was people choosing children to adopt by forcibly cutting the babies from the mothers and then putting the mothers into a type of prison block where they had to kill each other and retrieve tags from the belly wounds of each woman, the last one standing was deemed the strongest woman and therefore would have the best baby, so that was the child the adoptees chose! how very morbidly strange!

You MUST remember that movie!
Valhalla Rising is fairly strange, gave up on it as it was slightly too weird.

El Topo?

In terms of Mainstream films.

Hanna was quite weird, apart from the completely innapropriate soundtrack it was pretty good though.

I remember watching about half an hour of 'Southland tales' was just so utterly miffed i gave up. Btw I am not recommending it, it's not 'a real trip dude lulz' its just crap.

Another movie that fits into the 'What were they thinking?!' niche is Revolver, how can something so surreal be so utterly boring?

Regards to the fountain: It is not particularly weird or profound but it is Visually STUNNING.
