I'm building a Pack 1520 for my armies and I am on my last tray. It's 3.5" and I want to know if anyone has used this tray for the following models:

Kairos
Bloodthirster
Belakor
2 Daemon princes

Take careful stock of your army. Know what you have, the quantity, and the size of each model.

I bought Dark Eldar stuff. Wherever he had a standard tray (Warriors, Bikes, Scourges, etc), I just bought his standard trays. I regret much of it.
It's not BF's fault. It's mine. The standard warrior tray wasn't set up to hold NEARLY enough heavy weapons & Sgt's for me. The scourges tray didn't have enough "extended" slots for heavy weapons. Etc.
I DID have models break in their foam.

When I went back the 2nd time, I specifically built almost every tray to my own specifications. While I may not have as many spaces on all of my trays as BF does, my trays actually work for the army I've got.

For your oddly shaped characters, you've got 2 options; either you can trace them & send the shapes to BF for them to design a tray for you (free if it's included as a tray for a bad purchase) or you can do it yourself. By combining and overlapping different shapes in the Tray Creator, I managed to create trays to fit my special needs, including one for my modeling tools that needed shapes not included in the Tray Creator.

Wait. I take that back. I agree that he CAN. I just don't think he SHOULD.

Not only is pluck foam a PITA to, well, pluck... but you never get as good a fit with a plucked hole as you do with a custom fit.
If you're spending your money, then go all out.

this. Really, this. Listen to what he has to say, in the above post and this post.

The only "problem" I have with battlefoam is that with custom trays (That you design yourself) they don't get all the measurements right, and its sometimes a little bit off. I ordered one made from tracing and it came out pretty close. Actually, I did tracings, scanned them, cleaned them up, reprinted and confirmed sizes, then did layout and sizing. I got a nifty custom tray for my Heavy Gear Blitz Caprice forces, and the biggest 'issue' is I might have been able to go with a thinner tray and a couple parts are a slight bit unwieldy to use. Both my problem, not theirs. Some tips:

Make sure you design your cutouts a bit 'larger' than needed unless you want it absolutely snug.

Test, test, test and test again.

Battlefoam may ask for a ruler to be added to your design.

Don't forget room to grab the minis! Add small half-circle bulges along a shape as grab-holes if necessary.

Here's my tray, loaded out:



The Mounts are little four-legged 'bug walkers' and I assemble mine with the legs magnetized to the hull pieces. The tray holds three squads... two light 'patrol' squads and a squad of larger strike-class mounts.

The BF tray works great for these. The holes for the smaller bodies are perhaps a bit too deep, but that's a minor issue.
