DE scourge or reaver

both can be quite effective I was wondering everybody else's thoughts

The scourge have tons of shards to throw plus 2 tank killer guns per every 5 but my reavers have wiped many squads with the cluster caltrops plenty of times. i have only just begun with my scourge squad so I will have to continue my testing and see what works the best for me

DE scourge or reaver

I've tried to run scourges with 2 splinter cannons for some games now. The amount of poison shots they provide is very useful. It's nice to not run them with heavy weapons as they are much easier to get into position... or usually flee from scary things.

I mostly shoot blasters with my reavers, or try to hide with turbo boosting for some surprise attack. Never tried the caltrop upgrade yet. I haven't had any opportunity to boost them over someone without leaving them open for assault.

Re:DE scourge or reaver

if you can get close enough to the target in the beginning then all you have to do is turbo boost across them. That should put you far enough away that you won't have to worry about the assault. Typically I will run 6 reavers with 2 heat lance and 2 cluster caltrops. This provides me 4-12 strength 4 hits with the bladevanes and an extra 2-12 str 6 hits from the cluster caltrops. If you get decent enough rolls you may be able to wipe the entire squad with one go.

Re:DE scourge or reaver

I run six reavers with three caltrops. If your openent deosnt know about reavers than he or she wont usually attacked them until after they do their damage. I try to start the reavers behind cover cause they die very easy if shot at. Scourges if played smart can be very very useful but again like everything else in DE die very easy.

You can only have two caltrops for six reavers.

I never had any great luck with them so far, they usually gets killed as soon as anyone looks at them. Maybe I should try to run them with caltrops and see if they at least can do some damage before dying.

Re:DE scourge or reaver

Scourges are more useful than Reavers IMO,

Haywire Blasters are fantastic at suppressing enemy vehicles and they can put the hurt on infantry with a good amount of poison shots too.
Finding a suitable place to DS isnt always easy without opening them up to assault (to which they die easily) but you can always deploy them as normal (in cover) as they are mobile with decent range.

If I do take any I take a squad of 5 with either 2 Haywire Blasters or 1 Haywire and 1 Heat Lance

Reavers can be good if run with Sliscus and can be handy at pinning lootas etc with the Grav Talon upgrade. However once you've zoomed you are nearly always within assault range (fatal) or rapid fire range (probably fatal even with 3++). Given their cost they simply do not have the survivability to be a particularly efficient unit.

As the Caltrops cannot be used on vehicles I never take them and much prefer the Grav Talon due to the pinning test it forces.
2 x 3 man squads with 1 Heat Lance in each can be a good suicide unit to bust tanks.

However, if there were a way to take Reavers as Troops then this wouldn't even be a discussion!

Boar

DE scourge or reaver

How does a haywire blaster not go against tanks?

Personally I like scourges. Running them with heat lances or blasters out of a portal gets you just as close but costs less. You get the same number of special weapons as a 6 man squad and break/can't rally at the same point. The other difference is that you loose one point of tougness for being able to take a save against a flamer unlike turbo boosting reavers.

Re:DE scourge or reaver

Lucazi - the main use of the Haywire Blaster* has nothing to do with its strength. Check it's profile and rules on pg 58 of the DE codex. It's a really effective weapon.

* Edit
