Alternative to Armypainter Chainmail?

Besides the fact that it is overpriced, I didn't have the best experience with AP chainmail when I tested it out (little too grainy and thick for my liking). So I am looking for an alternative.

I love Krylon black primer (goes on smooth and is only 3-4 bucks) so I was poking around their site for possible silver spray options. They have 5 metallic paint/primer combinations, two of which are silver. Anyone use these? ( http://www.krylon.com/products/dual_metallic_finish ) If not, what silver sprays have you used (any kind, they don't have to be paint/primer combos)? I know people use airbrushes but I am not going to paint enough models for an airbrush to be worth it, so I am looking for spray cans.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, I've found a Krylon Stainless Steel paint, which is another possibility.

http://www.krylon.com/products/stainless_steel_finish

I may have to track these buggers down at Wal-mart and Michaels if no one has used them before.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
ok, I have done some more research, and some folks think Tamiya acrylic metal sprays are very good. Particularly the light gun metal ( TS-42 ) and the bare metal silver ( AS-12 ). They aren't cheap but they are made for hobbyists. Has anyone used these? The only thing I am worried about with them is how they will take to a black wash.

The thing with spray painted metal it always ends up a bit grainy

Only spray metal paint that doesn't do that is alcad 2 but isn't exactly cheap.

If you want a smoother finish I recommend just using army painter and then brushing a thinned down metal paint (vallejo air metal is good).

Hmm, the goal was to save time, so painting over the spray to finish the basecoat won't save much time.

A bit grainy I can handle, the AP spray was more grainy than I'd like, but maybe I just screwed up applying it. I may have to try one of the other options and see what happens. I don't have a lot of time to paint and I don't want to spend many many hours basecoating by hand, so I am going to have to try spraying.

Sure it's slower but not even near as slow as brush on method. I recon you can have the metallics finished in a day for a 2000 point GK or necron army.

One thing to remember with armypainter spray is that you need to spray from a short distance. AP says 5cm distance is recommended but I spray from 2.5cm-5cm. If you spray too far away you will get grainy affect regardless of primer color (chainmail, white etc.).

I can try to take a pic of my badrukk as I primed him with chainmail.
