I've been reading pretty consistent reviews about the new GW metallics and how they're much "grainier" than the old colors. can anyone tell me how they compare with the metallic offerings from Vallejo, P3, etc? I've only had experience with GW paints and I'm trying to figure out if I should stock up on the old GW metallics while I still can or if there are good alternatives from other companies.

Vallejo Model Air Metallics are much better, because they have a very fine metal pigment. Good coverage and shine, but the silvers are much better than the gold tones.

The best metallics I've ever used are the Vallejo Liquid Gold range. A bit of a hassle to work with, but worth it - unparalleled shine and coverage, but you need alcohol instead of water to clean your brushes and thin the paint. For more information you can read:
