Ebay salvage: Drop Pod

So i need two drop pods for my slowly growing ultramarines army, and being the cheapskate that i am, i bought one of them off ebay for a lovely little £16. a fair enough deal i thought, but the model wasn't exactly in the best shape, it was painted very badly and thickly in what looks like emperors children colours, and it was fairly poorly assembled.

i proceeded to tear it limb from limb, and was left with these parts

now i have to prime them all white and start up my airbrush. i'll be back with an update later today

With the paint being as thick as it is you should just give that baby a Super Clean bath and leave it for a day. I bought a Space Wolves army on the cheap because it looked like it was painted with toothpaste; a Super Clean bath later and I had a ready to paint 1500.

maybe, but every time i strip down plastic models they turn into blobs of black goo. on vehicles it is safer to just leave it

Then don't use anything that'll dissolve oil paint. Something like Dettol should work and be available there. A few cleaning agents and degreasers should be able to do it, but if unsure test on a bit of sprue first. It'll give the paint something better to cling to in the end.

Obviously stuff like turpentine and nail polish remover (for the acetone) are straight out.

How did ya stripped them?

If you leave them in detergent some days, you'll soften the paint enough to be able to take it off with an old tooth brush.

Not a miracle system and needs working time, but there's no risk of melting it.

detol is what i used, straight out of the bottle brown detol, and it always turns the primer into a sticky glue that fills up the detail.

and unfortunately i am on a serious time budget, i am busy for the next three days, then i have two more days able to model until i go back to work away from my hobby stuff

Dettol is amazing for stripping paint from vehicles and miniatures. Because that can turn the paint into goop that's really hard to get off.
If you scrub the minis in the Dettol they've been soaking in you should have no problems.
