ANZAC day 2012

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Let the members of this forum take a moment to pay tribute to those who have served and fallen, in previous and current wars, in the navy, army, airforce and the ordinary civilians who contributed their efforts such as the ambulance services, nurses and chaplains. On this day 25th of April, 1915 Australian & New Zealand Army Corps landed on the beaches of Gallipoli in Turkey along with many other commonwealth and international forces. Under a hail of gunfire at a misplaced landing zone, the troops still carried on, scaling sheer vertical cliff faces while suffering horrendus casualties. This day is also marked for respecting the dead and service members of wars such as WW2, Korea, Vietnam and various other peace keeping missions ANZACs participated in. This day is also for the Turks who in all honesty, were defending their nation and share the same sense of peace as we do to this day.

This day will always be a part of the suffering and sacrifice that our soldiers committed into mainting peace and freedom around the world. So dakka dakka show your support and post a poppy or wreath in rememberance of the young men and women who gave their lives and wellbeing in the pursuit of ending tyranny.

P.S- This thread is not about the governments that began these wars, it is about the soldiers who fought them.

They are always remembered, and in that manner at least, they never really die. I served with Australian and Kiwi troops and remember them all fondly.

Here, have a virtual poppy, it means little but they earned it, and I shall purchase some always awesome ANZAC biscuits when im in Morrissons on Saturday.
