Thoughts on army and unit selection

I can't imagine I'm the only player who feels this way and I am hoping for feedback from other players.

1) I love fielding redundant units.

Why? Dice. Well, primarily dice.

I've been playing 40k and Fantasy for about 13 years now. In that time, I've learned that any one unit I commit to a given task is not enough. When given a chance to subvert my efforts, my dice will gladly seize the opportunity. By fielding 2-3 of a given unit, I can apply overwhelming force to high priority targets.

Additionally, redundant units simplify movement and tactics in general. I'm more likely to have what I need where I need it if I have more than one of it! Say that three times fast.

I don't find my list boring to play and I love the uniformity on the field. My army looks cohesive and professional.

How can you resist?

2) I love Grey Knights.

As someone who always plays Paladins and various other "good guys," I love the concept, look, and style of Grey Knights. An incorruptible force of elite warriors that punch evil in the jaw and except no reward or recognition? Yes, please.

I'll gladly take being one of these over an astronaut.

I did not thoroughly browse internet forums in favor of the strongest army under the current edition of the rules. I picked the army because I like it.

Am I going to apologize for their power? No. Am I going to apologize for using what is one of the best models for their cost in the game? No.

Even if a player selects his army because he wants to win, he did so because he is building a force based on what is important to him.

In my experience, my opponents groan at my army selection. They dislike my army as a whole. They dislike my choice of special character. They disregard my wins due to my army. They claim it plays itself and requires no skill.

Before you berate your next opponent and try to belittle their army, playstyle, or skill, I recommend you take a step back and consider you're playing another person. A person who has spent countless hours crafting his list, assembling and painting his models, and dreaming about the next big fight.

I say bring what you want to the table and let's have a good time playing a game.

As for me, I'll continue to field exactly what I want and have a blast playing it. Wins or losses.
