Ork Kan/Dread wall tips and tricks

I hear everyone talkin about kan walls and i got that they give cover but is there anything else im missin? cause i wanted 2 make my deathskullz army with lots of lootas, kans, deff dreads, looted wagons and deffkoptas, as super mech army pretty much. so how many kans do i nead 2 make a decent wall? and can i use deff dreads as well? and if not than what are dreads good 4 and how do you use them? and one last thing, if i have 2 meks as hq choices than can use 2 deff dreads as troop choices? and is a all armor/mech army 4 orks do-able?

9 kans is best but you can get away with 6 deff dreads ive never used so im unsure rokkit buggys have a good synergy with kan wall deffkoptas are good for tarpitting heavy wepons teams allowing your kans to move unmolested the tactic is simple boyz behind the kans with the mek then simply march up the board firing as you go then charge even at WS 2 5 str10 power wepon attacks is gonna do some damage

I don't see the dread helping much, but I'm not a fan of deffdreads.

Playstyle pointers: make sure you understand cover and vehicle squadron rules, I equip my kans with 2 grotzookas and 1 big shoota, but rokkits is a solid choice as well. I assume that the kans will take at least 1 damage result, so I have a gimp to take the first wound while shaving a few points.

Your list would work fine, and if you feel like you don't have enough of a wall, you can always drop the wagon for more kans. One thing to consider though is that the looted wagon will most likely off your opponent a cover save because of the amount of boyz that you will have on the table.

i think 6 walkers and 9 buggies is enough armour saturation.Filling it with nobs would be horrible since your wagon will be in the enemy lines turn 2 and the rest of the army is lagging behind allowing most of his army to kill a little bit of yours without much threat that turn.It would be better to fill it with lower priority targets and let those missles bounce off front armour instead of wrecking kans.plus it adds a larger radius for the KFF freeing up the second Hq slot for something else like a warboss or a small loota squad if wanted.

the downside is that one battlewagon is easy to take out and will have it's side armor exposed very quickly, making it just as easy as a deffdread to take out. For that kind of points I'd expect a much better gun. Anything you buy anywhere in the codex for 60 points is better than a killkannon, including flash gits and gretchin.

azgrim wrote:i think 6 walkers and 9 buggies is enough armour saturation.Filling it with nobs would be horrible since your wagon will be in the enemy lines turn 2 and the rest of the army is lagging behind allowing most of his army to kill a little bit of yours without much threat that turn.It would be better to fill it with lower priority targets and let those missles bounce off front armour instead of wrecking kans.plus it adds a larger radius for the KFF freeing up the second Hq slot for something else like a warboss or a small loota squad if wanted.

Keep in mind that kanz and buggies are not adding any target saturation to a battlewagon and vice versa. Lascannons, railguns, multimelta and melta are the kind of weapons that are aimed at battlewagons, while autocannon, assaultkannons, scatter lasers are the weapon of choice for taking down kanz and buggies.
Re:Ork Kan/Dread wall tips and tricks

I've been having a similar internal debate as well kind of between koptas vs buggies.

The buggies get me some more armor saturation but they are fast and will likely outpace the rest of the foot sloggers and would be hard to get 2 of them into the 6' bubble for the KFF along with all the kan's that need to be in there already. Flamer versions however are very effective the times they do hit though missle buggies give the list some much needed anti-AV though . They also will be somewhat death traps as if they are close to the mobs, being open topped they are just that more able to explode and kill a bunch of boyz.

The koptas can operate out of the KFF and get in the back by infiltrate/outflanking. Some rear armor shots with rockets are also possible though they are less sturdy.

Using them as units of 1's will minimize lack of morale abilities but I'd probably want to keep them cheap as with a buzzsaw they start to get a bit pricy compared to buggy as a tank hunter role.

I think he is actually talking about a looted wagon and not a battlewagon. If you have one, or access to an imperial tank I'd definitely make one for your collection and use it at first. It may give you good results, and won't break the list at all. One downside is that your large army is most likely going to make it to where you cannot take advantage of the ap 3.

My favorite things about orks is being able to kitbash and loot things. Every time a new model comes out I'm always looking for a new conversion idea. I had an IG army and now my kans are sentinels that were turned in all sorts of ways (each one is unique looking), my battlewagons are made from imperial tanks etc.
