The_Curator's Blog'o'Random Stuff

Some of you may or may not have see my Greater Nurgle Daemon thread that I sporadically updated over the past year or so. (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/374858.page). Unfortunately, as wargamer's minds tend to do, I started getting distracted with other projects. Also unfortunately, all of these projects seem to be in completely unrelated armies and systems, so I am getting absolutely nowhere. In order to combat this, I've decided to start a blog where I will be posting whatever happens to catch my fancy project wise. Hopefully, with a little bit of encouragement, I will be able to finish at least one army in the near future. Without further adieu, pictures!

So first, just some of my project areas so you have an idea of some of the stuff I'm working on:

Note that if you feel so inclined, you can go to the gallery and actually zoom in to see what all of that stuff is!

Next, the closest thing I have to an actual start to an army, my personal army of a yet-to-be modeled rogue trader (counts as IG). The general troops will be made with combinations of empire plastics and Cadian guards, and each an every model will be lovingly made in some way. The veterans are the actual Cadians that I got the weapons from, and I hope to model them as a professional Spec Ops force (as I believe vets should be.) The General troops will be a big shooting blob, and the Vets will be escorted onto the field in valks and dettas. To start, here are a few proof of concept models for the rank and file troops. Quick note, many of these have yet to be cleaned, glued, or primed so expect all of that to occur before judging them to much.

Quick shot of the group:

First, a wounded soldier turned into a pack mule. (You cant see it to well, but he has a bunch of bags on his back)

A gentleman with a kroot rifle (Just another rank and file)

Grenade launcher troops:

The "Commissar", an old Squat pirate with a bionic hook arm

One of my personal favorites, he has the las rifle slung over his arm

And the heavy weapons team.. I like to call it: "You cant hit for crap, I'll take care of em'"

I also got these old Eldar heavy weapons models in a random lot from eBay. Unfortunately, the weapon platform wasn't included, so i started brainstorming up ways to use them. They definitely don't look like the Eldar models of today, so I'm thinking about just using them as some of the special models in the Rogue trader army. I don't think it's to much of a stretch to count the one with the box as Marbo, and possibly the one with the backpack as a master of ordinance maybe? Anyone have thoughts about them?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Okay, now for something a bit more... chaotic. While working on my greater daemon from my previous thread (which I'm sure I will post pictures of once I get enough drive to get a little more done on him), I started realizing how fun it was to Greenstuff nurgley things, so of course I started decrepifying everything I could. It started with a scratch built daemon prince based on an ogre that has been gifted to have some more slug/centipede-like features.

After I worked on this guy for a bit (And proceeded to lose interest), I realized that I had a bunch of space marine models from that stage every 40k player goes through when he thinks they're cool. After researching a bit to see what I could get for the few Space marines I have left, I realized that they are worth next to nothing since the market is so saturated with them, so there would be no reason to sell them. Of course, since I'm on a nurgle kick, my space marines are starting to look a bit under the weather.

Finally, I have this guy who will more than likely be general if I ever decide to do a fantasy WoC army:

Re:The_Curator's Blog'o'Random Stuff

5 Months in the future... Its always fun to look back and see what you were planning with a project, and how its changed over time... I'm saying this because my projects have changed a bit since the last time I posted, and I've made a bit of progress on a few things, so that's always good.

Most recently, I've been focusing on Malifaux. Originally, my brother and I got Zoraida and Pandora and played eachother a couple of times, but didn't have anyone to play against besides the two of us, so lost interest. More recently, I found some people in the area where I'm going to school that actually play, so I've been focused on getting my crews ready. Of course, the Zoraida and pandy crew boxes needed a bit of work, so when I saw an awesome deal on eBay for a lucius box with some extra models, I jumped on it. Now after playing a couple of games with him, I realized he needs a bit more kick to be really successful (Also that Ryle is quite squishy when up against a real melee beatstick). I plan on getting Lady J to lead the crew, and a few more guild card since I only have 1. A quick picture of the models, just the starter box, 2 austringers, and 2 hounds.

Note that they're all bare metal.. I still need to file off the mold lines, and then figure out how I'm going to pin them to the dock bases I have.. (Shoulda took pictures of those) Any tips on getting those huge tabs off, and pinning the thinner models would be appreciated.

Next Project!

Fantasy Daemons

The same group that I've found Malifaux players in happens to have a pretty big fantasy following. As most of you who have read the first post have seen, I have been sculpting nurgle daemon stuff for 40k for a while. The good thing is, its all transferable, and none of it is attached to a base, so I won't have any problems. The idea behind my Daemons is that they are going to centered around Tzeentch, with a large unit of horrors that I will convert from the empire minis I have to be Psuedo-possessed (See below). I also hope to get some of the older metal horrors to throw in the unit (The ones where the blues horrors are tearing out of the mouths of the pinks). As far as fluff, they will be daemons in the guise of humans, who's true form come out in battle (Or somesuch). To make the other god's units make sense in this army, each will be fluffed in once I develop the characters and whatnot, so expect some stories to back these guys up! Without further adieu, some pictures of these guys.

Current State of my big fatty.. not to happy with what I've done to the paint, so I sort of stopped worrying about it for now. The base is from when he was going to be used for 40k, not glued down.. just extra long pins going up into his feet.

A few pictures of my Nurgle daemon Prince/PB on palanquin, depending how they are in the next army book. I've done a bit of sculpting work since the last time I posted pictures, but the pictures are a bit dark because I got the urge to take them at midnight..

Dunno what I'm going to do with this guy yet.. possibly a Herald of Nurgle for my plaguebearers I have yet to plan out? Worked on a few things since the last time I posted pictures of him, check it out.

the horror factory, where I put parts together in whatever way they please me to hopefully show some true Tzeentch inspiration (And the first mock up, as well as one I'm working on)

--the "horror" with a claw coming unpleasantly out of his stomach

The WiP horror who will be basking in the flames of change (Side note, I sort of love the flames I've been sculpting lately)

Of course, no chaos pantheon is complete without the blood god, or the god of pleasure. Not alot to show here yet, but the bloodletters will consist of as many of this older style that I can get, a nice horde of 40 should do.. if anyone knows someone who has some of these collecting dust, and would part with them for a decent price, I'd be interested. The "Daemonettes" will be custom from a Kroot body, with a modded head, and some form of scything talons... looking at either tyranids or sculpting them myself. Dunno yet.

I think that's enough for tonight, even though I have a few more things to show you.. have to build suspense somehow. If you guys want better pictures of anything in particular, I can take some in the daylight by request (And hopefully for future updates).

Comments and critiques are always welcome.

-The Curator
