So i am chopping it to two for now, I feel I am light on shooting, but am unsure where to get it from. More HoD teks, or shaving for a triarch stalker..a ghost ark? a night scythe? let me know what you guys think, the more input the better

-KC

It stands for Harbinger of destruction, it is an upgrade to a cryptek. The cryptek then upgrades his staff of light to a Eldritch lance, which is a str 8 ap 2 assault 1 gun. So it is just an acronym for the most popular version of a cryptek that is used for anti tank shooting.

2000 Point Competitive Assault Necrons

I honestly think that having a single annihilation barge isn't going to accomplish much, you're going to need at least 2 to make them effective, although given the type of list that you are trying to build, I'm not sure that these are the way to go.

I tried a similar thing with the Monolith in a similar list and it just doesn't work. There's no point trying to use it to block line of sight as your night fighting should do the job and it doesn't do enough damage to justify its rather large points cost. Therefore, I'd drop the Monolith and the Annihilation Barge.

I'd then spend the points on including a solar pulse, you need it just to give you that turn of night fighting if the worst should happen and Imotekhs lightning fail early on in the game, it's unlikely but it could happen.

I'd then spend the remaining points on more spyders, you want to be churning out as many scarabs as you can each turn whilst night fight is still in effect.

Hope this is useful.

Re:2000 Point Competitive Assault Necrons

Rampage, thank you for the quick and complete response.

My justification for taking the A-barge is that for 90 points I gain a solid tank that can do a few things. Immobolize/stun tanks well so that my melee aspects can close and always hit. He also provides a small amount of anti infantry firepower for something I want to widdle down. Also, av 13, as you know, is nothing to scoff at. I had a solar pulse in my last list, for 20 points I can probably squeeze it in fairly easily since I have 90 points to spare.

I am a fan of the monolith currently as in my last game with this list is preformed well and provided a good anchor for the middle of the board and scared certain things away, while drawing his melta out. Yes, blocking LOS is not that clever in NF. But I can use it as a way to give my scarabs cover if the wraiths/spyders cannot. It also can give my spyders cover when the board is lacking.

So you advice I drop the mono and the Abarge, so that is 295 points plus my 89, which gives me, 384 points. Which is a damn lot. 20 pts for solar pulse, so I have 364, then you suggest max spyders? so 7 more at 50 pts a pop, that puts me at 14 points leftover.

So 9 spyders, 12 wraiths, a squad of scarabs. So essentially scarab farm plus wraiths?

Thank you for your input.

Good points, that is a lot of points. I was thinking more for freeing up the heavy support slots.

What's good about combining the Scarabs with the Wraiths is that Wraiths are excellent against infantry and for tying up hefty close combat units whereas the scarabs are excellent anti-tank, especially en mass, as you have the potential to get huge multi-assaults with a lot of attacks.

Plus, while the night fight will protect you from a lot of shooting from armies, it won't do anything against assault. This is again where the Wraiths come in, screening your spyders from assaults while they spawn scarabs and tying up large close combat units, acting as road blocks.

I suppose maybe keep the annihilation barge and then pump some more points into another Royal Court from Imotekh to form a squad of Destructeks, but it's your call at the end of the day.

Re:2000 Point Competitive Assault Necrons

I would agree that the scarabs and wraiths in tandem is a very powerful combo as long as I dont run into too many TH/SS termies or tons of double strength attacks.

All of your points are valid, but the one thing I dont want to do right now is drop wraiths for spyders. So personally I feel one squad with 7-8 starting scarabs is a solid core which can be quite dangerous once it gets two turns of scarabs created.

The destructeks are where I am leaning, but what I have been doing is attaching imotek to the gauss immortals, then the chornometron obviously. At most I can add one destruktek. So what I was debating is one lightningtek for the haywire gun to glance/immobolize vehicles even more. then add 2 more lanceteks after there to add to the tesla squads..Actually I kinda like that...

I don't think that I mentioned dropping Wraiths, but I could be wrong, doesn't sound like something that I'd say though. I was thinking more of dropping the Monolith for more spyders, you could get 4 more just from dropping that.

If you used some of the points to put Anrakyr in the barge, you could then upgrade an immortal unit to etermals for free. You would have to disembark to get MiTM though.

However, as Imo is obviously going with the Gauss Immortals, maybe beef up a tesla immortal squad with a couple more bodies to benefit? i.e. Imo + Immortals X8, Eternals x8?

If you then added DespairTek with vod x 2, you could then drop these where they were needed (assuming the Monolith was in centre of the board, you could then drop these squads on the edges?).
