Don't deep strike the Trygon. IF you do the opponent only has one real target on turn one with this list, the Trevigon. Kill that and the troops get real weak, real fast.

Not sure I like the list, but I can't really tweak with out dismantling it.

I agree with the above. Also, you are a little over kill with 3 tyrant guards. Take 2 max. I wouldn't take a broodlord in both squads as you limit the amount of bodies in the unit. If you have to have a brood try just one and use the saved points some where else. Never deepstrike trygons. They can't assault and will be peppered hard once they arrive. Especially a solo one.
I would try something like this without really changing too much

Swarmlord
1 Tyrant guard LW (get's cover easier)

2x2 hive guard

10 term
Tervigon TS, AG, Cat
8 sealers TS; Broodlord
8 stealers TS
8 Stealers TS

Trygon Prime AG

You get an extra stealer unit and a prime trygon. your trygon has a potential of 18' assault range so DSing is never a good idea. Plus his shooting attack isn't half bad either.

Re:tyranid 1500 attempt at competative

I used a list very similar to this to great effect against my friend's Necrons recently. I'll show you what I had.

HQ:
Swarmlord with Tyrant Guard: 340

Elite:
2 Hive Guard: 100
2 Hive Guard: 100
8 Ymgarl Genestealers: 184

Troop:
10 Termagants: 50
Tervigon with Catalyst + Scything Talons: 180
8 Genestealers with Broodlord: 172
8 Genestealers with Broodlord: 172

Heavy:
Trygon: 200

1498 Points total.

As has been said, you really don't need 3 Tyrant Guard at this points cost, and with 1 you can give the Swarmlord some easy cover.
I added Ymgarls, just to mix things up, as I find they're great fun.

The Genestealers can be given TS or a Broodlord. It's your call really, both have advantages.

And I'd reiterate what's been said before... Deep striking Trygons is bad business.

Does the swarmlord bring anything extra that a lashwhip & bonesword/scything talon hive tyrant does not?

Just that I too am looking at a 1500 nid army for a tourni, but see the swarmy as being to much of a point sink, but ymmv.

Give the said tyrant hive commander and armoured shell, and he still comes out much cheaper, points you can use for some more things

But 4++ is for close comabat only, so he only has a 3+ protection agaisnt shooting attacks, I am sure a wise oppponent will not directly engage him and proceed to just run away shooting at him, also with all the greyknight players around he can still be insta-killed by force weapons, I understand your points and can see arguements both ways as to use him or not. I am still not entirely convinced, but I guess the only way is to do a bit of play testing.

Back on topic, the op's list is good, but as said, 1 tyrant guard should be enough, make the tyrgon a prime and maybe bulk out the stealer units / add a third one.

tyranid 1500 attempt at competative

The swarmlord is overpriced. and has a massive target on his head, and is forced to fight in close combat, who is gonig to engage with that? (i know im very biased here).

A Hive tyrant(preferably with a gun) and a guard is fine. Hive commander if you want to outflank that tervigon? Wings if you dont want him shot up in the first 2 turns, drop him in when the dangerous units are engaged. armoured shell isnt that useful if you want him in combat. Too many power wepaons around.

The tervigon is awesome. Nice FNP to your tyrant, not really enough gaunts to warrent TS/AG. youve only got 10 and possibly another 15? i might take TS at 30+. as for Ag, do they need furious charge? Are they not for holfing objectives, shielding and tieing up units? they want to die. I understand it could be useful but im just trying to save points for my next suggestion

Broodlords i dont personally find that effective, but 1 in 3 units i agree can serve a purpose. but bolster your genestealers if possible to 10, gives them some durability.
Or as i have done before with good success, drop stealers (all or some of) and add raveners with rending claws. faster, tougher, deepstriking stealers. (Downside is they cant have TS, but do have an option for a ranged wepon)

Hope that was useful!
