my next purchase is going to be another Giant model and will be converting him into the Abominable Snowman! (giant rules)

Your ogre example I'm really not a fan of. You issue is you went way to heavy on the wash, so you have a shiney, and somewhat dirty look. My suggesion is use some very light dry brushing to clean it up. You also could look at highlight the paints, hair, wood - brown, and weapons. it will make the model more crisp to look at.

My only suggestion is to if you want to use the washes, you can consider another color that easier for washes. However, you may want to use this first go as a "base" where you can build off it. To dim the shiny, you could dry brush very lightly the skin color, then go up a stage on the that with the skin color / white with 50-50.. again very light. It will leave you more of a blend, where the wash would be only in the recesses. After that you could black line where the color seperates with a fine tip ink pen which you can get from any craft stores

What it gives is a clear seperation to the eye, not just a blend from 1 color to the next. It also gives definite depth to the model, and makes the model look cleaner. Using the barrel as an example, you would draw black ink right between 2 wood planks on the barrel, it would give it more seperation. You would do the same thing drawing around the stone where it meets with the wood on the weapon, then on the metal where its joined to the stone.

You are "lining" the model. Adding depth. Once you get the hang of it, you can do it on the orange hair to add some depth and seperation so its not just a slab of orange. It also makes the army look very good from across the table as the models pop more.

When you look at the model, see where the tank and the yellow meet? See how's there's a clear seperation? That's black lining. After painting the entire model, I lined all the yellow. The pen cost about $4-5 from Blick Art studios. Look at the front of the Killa Kans shoulders, see the yellow triangle? I lined around it. Visually to the eye you see more of the difference. On the Kopters, the front is tan? Lok at the yellow view finder, lined around the bottom. It ends up looking like a realistic shadow the model "should" have, but doesn't if you don't add it in.

A buddies girlfriend showed me how to do it. ive also been working alot more on my Thundertusk as i am entering him into a painting comp this weekend in the Glasgow games workshop! =], anyways, this is how he is looking atm... Still a WIP, but he is getting there!,
