About 2K Points Tau Gunline

Now I know I am gonna get hated/ told to do X or take Y, but this army is more a case of taking models I like or think would be beneficial provided they are used correctly. i will explain each choice as I go.

HQ

Commander - Shas'el, Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, Targeting Array - 92
Reason - Compulsory

Ethereal - No Additional Gear - 50
Reason - To hopefully stop units falling back, will be hid behind a building but have LOS to most units (tricky I know).

Elites

Crisis Suits - 3 Shas'ui all with Fusion Blasters, Missile Pods and Multi-Trackers - 162
Crisis Suits - 3 Shas'ui all with Fusion Blasters, Missile Pods and Multi-Trackers - 162
Reason - Tank Hunters. To get it under 2,000 points I can remove the Ethereal.

Looking for any C&C but please do take into mind that this is NOT a competitive list and I do not want to deviate far from this list, even then this is a prototype list.for my possible Tau army(I only have 750 points currently).

About 2K Points Tau Gunline

I am not a fan of this list but like you said its your vision and its not a comp list.

The things that jump out at me straight awa are the FB Deep Striking Suits... They will get munched up so fast.

TL PR is a waste of points I think.

4 Suits will NOT take out Terminators or other heavy things. Its just not enough fire and most stuff is INV saves.

I would take XV88's over HH anyday of the weak.

The problem with foot FW is cover. We have fantastic range and STR but if you cant hit them its moot. This is why most tau players simply Reserve their scoring units til later, since they are useless for most games.

Good Luck to you!

I know there is another Tau player on here who wants to run a million FW.....

If this is the list you want to run that is fine. My only words of advice is get marker lights from pathfinders or tetras.
About 2K Points Tau Gunline

Added my comments in orange in this quote.

Milisim wrote:The things that jump out at me straight awa are the FB Deep Striking Suits... They will get munched up so fast.
Yea I know these units will be eaten fast, which is somewhat the point. It draws fire away from my other units. I know that 162 points is somewhat expensive for a suicide unit. I may change these however.

TL PR is a waste of points I think.
Given is the only AP2 (The AP 1 stuff is only good for single targets) I feel that giving it TL gives it more chance of actually damaging something.

4 Suits will NOT take out Terminators or other heavy things. Its just not enough fire and most stuff is INV saves.
I know 4 suits alone wont deal with terminators, given the inv saves especially if they have storm shields. may swap one of the tank hunter suit squads into more terminator hunters.

I would take XV88's over HH anyday of the weak.
Currently at most I plan on using 4 Broadsides at most. The Hammerhead still has the large blast which Broadsides don't. It may come in useful for infantry.

The problem with foot FW is cover. We have fantastic range and STR but if you cant hit them its moot.
Hence the markerlights. I will be using them to boost the BS of the other units, any remaining will be then used to reduce the LD of a unit. I may ditch the MLs from the FireWarriors and get some pathfinders though. More Markerlights the better.

Lobukia wrote:Kroot blobs are your friends. Also in the quote above I gave my thoughts on the Broadsides.

About 2K Points Tau Gunline

Kroot aren't meant to last long. They are draw fire, assault things you want to stay away from your fragile gunline, and to hold objectives on the cheap. They should die, they just die in a way that sets up a win and keeps the fight away from your gunline while you concentrate on shooting other targets.

Also, dropping 1 FW and your markerlight and instead taking a marker drone will cost only 10 points more and allows the FW to benefit from their own markerlight.

EDIT: nevermind

Re:About 2K Points Tau Gunline

Drop the FWs to 9 per squad. It is the second-best for number of kills needed for 25% and under 50% (the other being 6 per squad). I would suggest 4 XV88s and 1 HH for the pie plate. I'd make the TLPR/MP suits PR/BC/MT, you get a pretty good volume of fire, and a good chance of killing termis. Maybe only one squad of FB/MP/MT, with a Team Leader with a HWTL. They'll most likely get eaten, but you should be able to pop at least one tank (which should make their points back.)

They are definatly not worth it.

Hounds yes. they provide some much needed high iniative and can make the kroot more than just a tarpit and can mean that they can put some wounds on marines before losing some kroot. But are probably not worth it in a screening unit. That and the amount you need makes the unit become expensive monewy wise.

Krootox are situational. If you are having a screening unit then by all means they are good to provide some long range power against lighter tanks, to ignore saves of those pesky factions that arent marines or if they can get a rear armour shot. But other than this they aren't great and are situtional and should only be taken depending on the role. they can provide some higher strength attacks should you get assaulted as well. The fact they can be easily taken out is a problem as they are fairly expensive for what they are. and they are £13.80 a pop not sure for other countries
