Though with this many vets, creed is a good option or straken if you'd rather have a good close combat unit.

I'm not a fan of melta spam, but the most effective aircav I've seen to date is all Valkyries (with MRL and heavy bolters) with melta vets+demolitions. You can scout, move flat out your first turn and get your +4 save, then you can move and still fire your MRL's, drop your vets, they can hit with the demo charge and then charge themselves. It's highly effective.

I personally like half valks, half dettas, half meltas (In the valks) and half plasma vets (in dettas). Start with valkyries, move in and then deep strike your dettas with the plasma behind enemy lines.

Now I like carapace armor on my vets, for fluff reasons and against SM it is effective, as bolters, flamers and frag missile are all AP5. But they are a huge point sink.
