Looking at Warmahordes. Trollbloods.

Hello Dakka. hope you are all well.

I'm looking to expand my hobby beyond the confines of GW. So PP was an obvious choice.

I have actually picked up Two models thus far from trips to London over the past year. One from The Orc's Nest and one from Dark Sphere.

I'm wanting to start collecting a 25pts army (from what I've read that's about a Mid sized game)

I have in my collection.
Doomshaper.
Runebearer.

(Please note I purchased these on the basis of loving the models not on the game play aspect).

I'm not clued up on the rules, In fact I aint got myself a copy yet. However I will in Time and wanted to check/ask a few things first before getting to involved.

So, cutting to the chase, can anyone recommended a lists/future models to look into as my next purchase. In essence I want to pick up a few more models before I cough up for the rules and don't want to find that everything I have is either no good or does not work with the other elements in my army.

Thanks in advance.

Ok. I see this forum is not the most active on dakka, so let me try another approach.

I have been doing some reading about over the past two days and checking out the models I like within the range (I base all my armies on what models I like)

So, I have come up with a rough Idea of what I would like to get for my army. Again exact point cost ect, is unsure to me but that issue I'll solve when I pick up the rulebook (in a model or twos time),

My potential list is as follows.
Doomshaper,
Runebearer.
Mulg The ancient.
Dire troll Bomber
Dire troll Mawler.
Scattergunner Unit
Warriors Unit.

So, Good? Bad? Am I Crazy? comments would be welcome.

Looking at Warmahordes. Trollbloods.

Do you have Doomshaper1 or Doomshaper2? I ask because there is a slight difference between the two versions. Unfortunately I don't play trolls so I can't tell you much about the differences but I think Doomshaper1 can be used with a lot of different guys and Doomshaper2 loves warbeasts but can still take advantage of other things.

Either way I think that list you have posted up is ok. I haven't heard outstanding things about the scattergunners but their UA* does add a load to them.

*Units generally have two points values, one for a minimum sized squad and one for a maximum sized. Some units can also have attachments added. Sometimes these are weapon attachments (like the Caber Thrower) or Unit Attachments (like the Scattergunner Officer)

Mulg is also a beat stick, and hasn't ever really been a "bad" choice for me.

Scattergunners are a little hard to use, but are not unusable. However, I wouldn't recommend them for starting out.

Kriel Warriors are good but expensive $$$-wise. Have you considered Fennblades?

The Bomber really likes being in a list with an Impaler... without one, I'm not sure about his inclusion here.

The Mauler is a solid choice and can make Mulg hit insanely hard.

Here's a guide to what units have synergy with him:
http://www.trollbloodscrum.com/2010/08/old-doomshaper-troll-that-deals-out.html

However, I might consider a different warlock to start with. I really recommend building your list around a warlock, so the most important thing is to first choose the warlock. This is generally considered to be one of our weaker / situational warlocks (great against Hordes, not very good against Warmachine... so a poor "all comers" caster).

You can check out guides to other warlocks here:
http://www.trollbloodscrum.com/p/tactics-guides-strategies.html

If you do decide to stick with this warlock... surprisingly, there's a list not too disimilar to what you're suggesting posted up there. However, I've never seen/heard of anything like this so I can't vouch for it either way. It's a bit crazy! But uses a lot of the models you listed.

http://www.trollbloodscrum.com/2010/08/old-doomshaper-troll-that-deals-out_08.html

He says scattergunners work well under pDoomshaper under fortune, so they may be more viable in his lists than others. This list was written a few years ago, so now those 2 points would likely go to either Scattergunner UA or Fennblades UA (unit attachment, like an officer that you purchase for them separately).

Re:Looking at Warmahordes. Trollbloods.

Cheers for the info.

I have to admit that due to me owning the model and the fact I really love it i'll be sticking with Doomshaper (for better or worse) I play for fun and am not very competitive so concerns he's not the easiest to use does not worry me to much. Shame Rune Bearer appears to be a bit useless with doomshaper, but again I like the model so nothing wasted if he does not find his way into the army.

So taking into account the advice a revised list may look something like.

Doomshaper, (-7)
Runebearer (2)
Mulg The ancient. (11)
Dire troll Mawler. (9)
Bouncer (5)
Scattergunner Unit (5 strong) (5)
Fenblade Unit.+ UA (10)

Total 35pts (These are only what I hope/suspect the units cost Please tell me if this is widely wrong).

At least one of the points costs is off (Mulg) so it'd be worth double-checking these.
